When it comes to your home and your room decor- what type of personality does it have?
Room Decor with Personality
I know, that sounds strange. But when you think about it- each room has a vibe and certain look and so- has a personality. Whether that is calm and zen like, vibrant and full of energy or maybe even walking on the wild side among many others. Today it is all about 5 room decor ideas that have personality that you can bring in to create a different feeling in your home. And while I am sharing my own example versions on each style- which obviously are not totally spot on for the styles- I hope the examples give you an idea and stay tuned for an in depth post on each look coming your way as well.
And remember- there is no right or wrong way to decorate for each style- put your own spin on things and go with it. If it makes you happy- it is perfect.
Zen Room Decor
Calm, cool, collected – yet warm, welcoming and inspiring- zen decor is all about creating that ‘peaceful quiet centered’ feeling in your room. A zen room will often be minimal- simple without fussy tidbits and tchotchkes that clutter your space visually. A few simple ways to create a calm zen feeling?
- Remove the busy- Take out the extra clutter for a streamlined space
- Bring in nature- potted plants, fresh arrangements and olive trees are perfect
- Bring in candles and cozy- zen style is all about nurturing you and your home.
- Keep lines simple- leave the patterns and details out and think simplicity. Even leave the rug out if the works best for your space.
Colorful Vibrant Style
A more colorful style could go in several directions. Modern and clean, English country, collected, etc. I am sharing an English country style example- with a bold pop of color and more traditional lines. You don’t have to go bold as in bright yellow or crayon colors to create a more colorful vibrant look- you just don’t go all neutral. For more of this bookcase wall HERE
- Choose a bold pop of color and build your decor around it.
- Bring in those plants- green plants echo the vibrant feeling.
- Patterns, collections and details add more personality.
- Bring in a pop of glitz and glam- go for the gold for a touch or rich elegance.
Simplicity Style
Simplicity is kind of like minimal- and maybe kind of like zen in some ways. But without the ‘zen’ touches. Simplicity can also be considered modern farmhouse in my opinion. Which I have to say, I am not a huge fan of the farmhouse style of today -it is really oversaturated in my opinion and every room looks so similar. So modern farmhouse with pops of black, mustard and even burgundy red speaks more to me than the neutral look- and so that is the example photo I have to share haha. But I do like simplicity style from the sense that neutral farmhouse can bring- in small does. See more of the cottage kitchen HERE
- Baskets & wood – bring in the texture like chunky baskets, woven throws and reclaimed wood.
- Layers of simple – aka- keep it all one color palette in various shades
- Vintage furniture – painted furniture that is distressed is often in a simplicity inspired space- it brings personality without overwhelming. Also look for simple traditional farmhouse style lines- such as farmhouse tables and cupboards.
Vintage Collected Style
I mean- we all love that vintage style right? From showing off collections to simply enjoying collected pieces everyday in our rooms. The key for me with vintage style is Balance. Mix of modern clean lines, with vintage elements. See more of our bedroom HERE
- Collected Style – show off your favorite flea market finds in your space by letting them take center stage.
- Bring in balance- balance the vintage, curly q lines, tufting and old weathered patina by bringing in softness with linens.
- Modern lines- another way to balance is to bring in some clean lines to give your eye a rest and balance the space.
French Cottage Style
Oh you know this is a big favorite of mine. A mix of French country and cottage style – much like where I got the name for my blog. Living in a ‘cottage’ that has definite cottage elements and lines- but craving a more elegant French country style that feels more refined. See more of this antique cupboard HERE
- Chandeliers- always a game changer- bring them on.
- Floral pattern play- I love a good vintage French country floral fabric- pillows, wallpapers and curtains are favorite ways to bring that in.
- Antique Furniture- beautiful pieces that are heirloom quality fit perfectly in this style.
