When you find something special- you know. And oh I just knew this table was going to be a keeper when I saw it- so of course, I brought it home with me. You got a little peek of it out in the garden last week- but did you know that it didn’t stay there and landed in the house? It might surprise you because this beautiful painted vintage farm table is actually quite skinny and long- but it works so perfectly in our space.

Painted Vintage Farm Table
It had me at hello. And when we loaded it up to bring it home, it had me all giddy with excitement. I adore old tables (and chairs) and have been on the hunt for a longer than usual farm table for the dining room for awhile now. This one is *almost* perfect for what I had in mind. With the exception that it is quite narrow. But I decided to throw that out the window and bring it inside anyway. And it works so well in this spot.

I loved our cane chairs and rustic farm table here. The look was so lovely. But the table- as much patina as it had, it also had a lot of width. As you know, we have a split living/dining room area and a wide table with chairs just felt too tight and cluttered.

I wanted a table that was no more than 30″ wide for this spot but also- one that was longer than the average 6, 7 or 8′ long table. The china cabinet spans over 14.5′ and for the table to look like it fits properly – it needed to be longer. Ideally- a 10-10.5′ long table would be what I am looking for- but this farm table fit so many of the requirements. It is around 9′ and fills the space much better. It has a ton of wonky charm and the patina is glorious.

Chippy old white paint that has so much charm. The only thing was that it was not very wide. More of a sofa table size width at just around 21-22″ but it is big enough to allow for 2 plates across from each other and since it is my husband and I dining here most of the time- it works. If we were hosting a gathering with family or friends- honestly, if it was just a few inches bigger it would be an ideal size so I am on the hunt for an antique table that is long and just a bit wider for everyday in this spot.

But I will say- after having it in our dining room for a bit, I actually love the dainty size it has and now a regular size table would feel too big here.

I paired it with some of the small wood bentwood bistro chairs I have and they are so sweet with the table. Stay tuned for a proper styling and photography- I just grabbed a few quick photos to share this morning so apologize for the in the moment not all together snaps.

What do you think of this table? Would you use a narrow table for a dining room set up?

I love it!! It has so much character and charm. The legs on this table are saying “Sit with me for a while!”
You are so TALENTED!
I absolutely love the table!! great find!! I cannot wait to see how you style it. i love the bistro chairs with it. would love to find some for my farmer’s table. thank you for the link to your book. It is in my amazon cart.
Have a great weekend!
I love the chairs too! Thank you for your support of the book Debbra!
Oh Courtney it is absolutely great. Have you ever thought about waxing the table just to bring up the patina a bit. I use 0000 steal wool to apply and buff. Also what about making a reclaimed top for it a bit longer and wider for those time when you do need a bit more and store it away when you don’t. Just a thought. You are always spot on. Thanks for sharing.
It actually has an old painted varnish kind of sealer that is peeling up – I have pulled a bunch of it off already just while wiping it down- so maybe the steel wool would work to remove that without damaging the wood as well? I may also want to do something like a matte wax just to coat the finish- that is a great idea. Thank you!
Our AUTHENTIC French Farm table is only 28×55 and i am interested in your idea of a reclaimed top for it. Any ideas? I would like it wider & longer for holidays with family. We have used plywood, but not very sturdy. Thank you.
A definite keeper—so many possible uses!
So, so beautiful! And that cabinet… where on earth did that treasure come from?
A marketplace find! It is amazing and fits this spot perfectly.
Beautiful, i love farm tables.
how wonderful, I love it! just want to say thank you for filling my inspiration cup. in a world so full of hard places, you always, always remind me there is still beauty.
I absolutely love it! my husband is building a farm table for me. I also need a thinner table for the same reason as you. I love the patina on your table. the frame and legs on my table will be white. do you have a recommendation for the top of the table? I like the natural wood color. all the lacquers change the color. I also love DRIPPy candles. is it okay to leave it unvarnished on top?
It isperfectly imperfect I love it. I would keep it I bet you will find a way to make it work.
I like the table and it has many uses but I would have to see full view of room. I really liked the table you had and chairs in front of that large cabinet. but here again I don’t know how the large table looked in full view of room. but as you say it’s what you like!!
