Simple with fresh foliage and mercury glass on repeat. Sharing a closer look at the French Country style Christmas mantel in the bedroom today- and the 3 things that are my go-to favorites for Christmas mantel stylings.
French Country Christmas Mantel
1. Fresh Greens
My favorite look for Christmas mantel stylings almost always begin with simple fresh element.s Whether that is a garland or just sprigs of fresh greens- I like the simplicity and beauty of fresh foliage. The mantel in the bedroom is my favorite place to use a fresh eucalyptus garland. This is a custom order from a vendor at the SF Flower Mart- a mix of eucalyptus, acacia and other fresh greens that mingle together perfectly.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to use fresh greens that aren’t traditionally ‘classic’ Christmas greens. Fresh eucalyptus, olive, bay and other greens are beautiful for Christmas as well.
Safety Tip: If decorating a fireplace mantel that you are using with a fire or heat everyday – know that fresh will dry very quickly there. Both dried fresh and faux garlands are subject to catching on fire. Once a fresh garland is dried- it is just like kindling so it needs to be moved as soon as it dries out. And take note when shopping- some faux garlands are marketed as Not being flammable- I would choose one of those for a fireplace you are using during the season but even so- be mindful and safe because as you know- we recently had faux foliage catch fire and go up in seconds. Safety first always.
2. Long Ribbons
I love to finish the mantel ends with long velvet ribbons. It is a simple touch that I feel adds elegance and old fashioned charm. Ribbons for Christmas also feel very European to me- you will find ribbons on most trees and mantel stylings over here.
Of course, those houses tucked inside the faux firebox add a whole other layer of lovely too. 3. Mercury Glass
For a touch of beautiful magic- I love mercury glass. I used mercury glass baubles as well as these beautiful mercury glass candle hurricanes (which I also used in the living room for a few photos)
