Such an easy and delicious recipe for enjoying this holiday season- these maple and walnut topped sweet potatoes are the perfect addition to your holiday dinner menu.
Maple & Walnut Topped Sweet Potatoes
My husband makes these every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas- and the kids are always looking for leftovers to take home with them. So, he has learned to make extras. Some to serve and enjoy- and some to take home for round number two for each of the kids.

The best thing about these is that they are nutritious and they are also super easy to customize. For example- he uses a bit of maple syrup with agave nectar for the sweetness- but you can use maple syrup all the way or use brown sugar for even more. And you can add a sprinkle of cinnamon if you would like to as well.

Maple & Walnut Topped Sweet Potatoes
Ingredients
- 4 Whole Sweet Potatoes
- 1 cup Walnuts
- 1/2 cup Agave Nectar
- Cinnamon and Cayenne Pepper (if desired)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Clean and slice sweet potatoes lengthwise in half. Place in dish, cover and bake for 30-40 minutes (depending on size) or until you can stick a fork in them easily.
- While the sweet potatoes are baking- mix the walnuts and agave together in a small bowl.
- Remove sweet potatoes from oven and top with maple /walnut mixture and then place back in the oven uncovered for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven and lightly sprinkle with cinnamon if desired. You can also sprinkle with cayenne pepper if you like a little zip. Serve and enjoy warm.
Don’t miss the side dishes that my friends are sharing today too.
So if using brown sugar, do you pour maple syrup on potatoes AND then SPRINKLE the sugar and walnuts?
I mean- you could I suppose if you love it sweet! haha. It is in place of- some people prefer brown sugar – my husband likes to use agave nectar so it is just a personal choice. Just put the walnuts on with the brown sugar instead of the syrup.
What a marvelous idea, the walnut-maple syrup recipe! We’ve been enjoying pistachio-topped sweet potatoes the last few holidays, but this recipe is bound to be a wonderful little surprise this Christmas dinner. Thank you, dear Courtney!
They look so nice
