All things merry & bright
with a little touch of rustic cottage style.
Last week, I shared a peek at the rustic last minute
scavenge a few old boards out of the wood pile and make a faux fireplace mantel
guest bedroom mantel that we built- and today- it is all about the rest of the room and the tree.
The guest bedroom in the house is a room that I can definitely play up that rustic cottage vintage style that I love so much.
Though my oldest son doesn’t necessarily love and appreciate all that vintage goodness
when he visits…
this bedroom is definitely filled with vintage charm and character that I love.
It is a bit of a different look than my usual style- but that is part of the fun of decorating.
The bed and the armoire were craigslist finds years ago- and they wear a soft gray-blue swedish color
that is original.
Though there is a little wear in places, I can’t bring myself to paint it just yet.
And so, that faded gray color with all those details sets the tone for the look of the room
and I keep the Christmas color palette simple
Whites and creams, chunky textures and natural touches and not much more.
Above the bed, a simple vintage mirror dressed with a garland of eucalyptus.
I love this knit blanket to cozy up the bed- and the bench is a perfect spot for a few presents just waiting to be unwrapped.
The tree is simple cottage style.
Just frosty white ornaments, pinecones and pretty glittered jute
for a natural look.
I love simplicity with tree decoration.
One color, or several shades of one color for the ornaments are my favorites.
And add a dash of nature with pinecones or branches and you had me at hello.
You might recognize these ornaments- they are the etched ornaments from the French Country Collection at Balsam Hill.
I added just a few more crystal drops to the chandelier which is an inexpensive and easy way to dress up a new or antique chandelier and add a little more bling.
When it comes to a guest bedroom
adding just a few seasonal touches will welcome your guests
and sprinkle the room with Christmas magic.

I am off to do some tile grouting today… I am knee deep in a very last minute
renovation project that I think you will love.
It is a room I have never shared before… because.. yikes.
And it is being updated on a major budget as a design challenge.
Stay tuned!
Happy Wednesday everyone.
What a magical fairy world you live in. I so enjoy my visits.
Our chandeliers were hung today. Progress. It was a delicate operation–all antiques (but with new wiring!).
I love that! A magical fairy world sounds amazing! I am excited to see the new old chandeliers at your place!
