Welcome to the weekend view.
This week has been a bit of a whirlwind busy kind of week. But of course, it involved a lot of randomness too. From holding chickens to filming videos for an upcoming project to a rose bush question.
Peonies
Coral peonies are in the house right now- and I am pretty much obsessed with them. My husband brought about 10 bunches of coral peonies home from Trader Joe’s for a special photo shoot project I am working on- and they are now fading to a soft buttery golden yellow. The thing I love about these coral peonies is that they are like a new variety every few days. They start out bold and beautiful coral then fade to a softer coral, then peach then yellow and pale blush. They are Beyond beautiful.
Rose troubles
We are thinking this might be the result of shock from planting and the heat we had just after that- but we aren’t sure. These are some of the newly planted Quicksilver and Le Petit Prince roses- and they started out beautiful- then started to dry up and their leaves look like this now. Thankfully there does seem to be vigorous new growth coming on all of them- but we are wondering if it was planting shock and the heat that caused this, too much or too little water or if it is a bug or fungus that needs to be sprayed. If anyone knows- please let me know.
Sweet Sage
Little Sage is such a sweet girl. She is one of the hens that was broody for a couple of months and recently snapped out of it and has been the sweetest girl ever since. She has been out and about enjoying wandering the grass and scratching the dirt- and loves to be picked up and held. Sharing a little compilation from instagram reels of how much the fun the chickens are- I so enjoy enjoy them.
Sweet Pea
And another sweetie you haven’t seen here in a bit- little miss Sweet Pea. I snapped this right after she woke up from napping under the blanket -and she definitely has some wild hair going on. She just got her nails trimmed and a spa day this week- so she is looking a bit more like her usual self.
Bold & Beautiful
While moving some photography equipment out to the cottage last week- I saw this out of the corner of my eye over by the sidewalk. This is a HUGE moth- apparently a Polyphemus moth- otherwise knowns as a huge silk moth. It was absolutely beautiful in person and so large. We thought it might be one that a neighborhood cat got since it was just sitting there- but it did fly away not long after we snapped a few photos of it. I feel like we have seen these before but it has been a few years now. We also get ‘hummingbird moths’ here most every summer. They are such fun to watch.
Wandering
This weeks wandering- all kinds of fun.

Make: We are making lentil soup for dinner this weekend. I know, usually a winter kind of meal- but it has been chilly here the past few days and we are feeling soup. This is my husbands favorite veggie lentil soup recipe -he even made it while we were in Capri in October of 2019 when I was feeling under the weather and craving something to warm me up. And you know we are still enjoying that tomato soup and avocado, tomato grilled cheese sandwich on repeat almost every week too. We are OBSESSED.
Coming your way next week- it is all garden all the time. I am going to share about the roses I have planted this year- the new beds we just put in in April and the layers of different flowers we planted and the whole method to my madness there. And I will share the details on the shed build and where we splurged and where we saved- and much more.

Hi Courtney! Your GARDEns are always so dreamy! It is disheartening when we get plant ISSUES, I know! From my experience and looking at your picture, I think you may have either spider mites or fungus on your roses, based on the white SPOTS. Both created by humidity. I try to water at the base only and not get water on the leaves and that helps. Sometimes you inherit them bringing a new plant home too. Sigh…. Both as you know are treatable. On a hAPPY note – My husband INTRODUCED to me my new FAVORITE gadget this week end and you would love one too! ☺️ IT’S a water meter for plants with prongs that tells you if it’s dry, moist, Or wet. That way you know for sure if you are over or under watering. 😉

I am knew to your blog, and I cannot even believe the beauty I see in your pictures. I only wish I had the money to do what you have done with your home and garden. I also grow roses. My dad’s side of our family us French, and a love for growing roses was passed down to me. I have seen roses do what your are doing. I cannot remember why my father’s did that at obe point, but I do remember what he did about it. He simply quickly got rid of all the yellow leaves. He watched for any new ones to appear, and he would immediately pluck those leaves. Slowly they grew completely healthy new foliage. I have a few rose bushes. I always watch for yellow leaves to pluck. I dream that someday I will have the money to more rose bushes. I also would love to grow climbing roses up my fence. I hope ths information helps you. My few rose bushes are already huge with tons of buds.
