While bouquets and bunches of fresh flowers are always beautiful-dried flowers are charmers all their own. They are another way to enjoy those beautiful blooms and for much longer than when they are fresh. They bring a sense of whimsy to a room and they are just plain pretty anywhere you place them.
You might have noticed that I am a big fan of dried flowers. From roses to Larkspur to peonies, sunflowers, sweet peas and lavender clipped from the garden. I create little bouquets or arrangements and when they get a bit beyond squishy and start to droop- I hang them up to dry. Today is all about the ways I incorporate dried flowers into my rooms- and just how easy it is to create a romantic, whimsical display with your favorite flowers.
Simple & Sweet Anywhere
A mix and mingle of pastel summer florals with faded autumn colors= a perfect look anywhere you place them. I love to mix roses with sunflowers- on the mantel, in a vase, on the sideboard, inside a china cabinet-you name it. I love this mix for a charming little juxtaposition for the autumn season.
An old ladder
This is such an easy one- simply hang those flowers on a ladder and enjoy the decor while they are drying perfectly.
From open beams
In the cottage- we have a lot of old beams that are exposed and have lots of space to tie flowers for drying- and for decor. It is a favorite old world look that adds so much charm to a room. If you don’t have beams- think about hanging from the side of a cupboard for a similar feeling.
On a peg rack
Such a simple way to display and enjoy those dried blooms- if you have a peg rack anywhere- hang a bunch (or three) on it. I love this simple rack I recently added to the bathroom – and its just $12
Forage for a branch
This was so easy – we simply looked for a branch on a tree that was long enough to stretch from one side of the potting shed to the other. I hung flowers on the branch by tying them around the branch- and also by simply looping them over little stubs.
In a cupboard
Kind of like how I think fresh and dried flowers look beautiful simply plopped on a chair- I also love them inside a cupboard or on a sideboard. This is one way to bring a touch of seasonal charm to a cupboard- simply open one door and let a big bunch of dried blooms spill out. Or fill a whole shelf and open both doors for an abundant display.
In a pitcher
Best part- if it is a dried arrangement there are no water worries- so fill up a vase and enjoy.
In a Bucket
Kind of like the vase display- what I love about this is that you can take any type of interesting or charming bucket or bin and create something that becomes a focal point that lasts all season long. This is an old bucket filled with an abundance of dried hydrangeas and purple Larkspur.
Something Whimsical
Another favorite way to use dried flowers is by creating a garland or something to enjoy for a special occasion. I created this one for a tent styling I did for a job and love how it came out. Think centerpiece on the table or on the mantel for other ways to use garlands.
I could go on and on and on… basically, I think you can use dried flowers pretty much anywhere in your home to add a special beautiful touch. But I hope these ideas give you some inspiration for how to display those delightful dried flowers and greens in your home all season long.
Happy decorating all.

I enjoy your offerings so much but I get so aggravated by all the advertisements. I can hardly enjoy these emails. Is is necessary to have so many of them. Kathryn
Courtney says
They are changing the way the ads run currently – they should be set up differently soon.

Oh my goodness that tent is divine! Perfect timing, as I dried purple zinnias, roses, anything with a deep purple/ pink I could combine with eucalyptus, grey greens and pale orange, green and white pumpkins for my mantle and a wreath! They’ve been hanging from a drying rack I made from a large embroidery hoop, jute and clothespins. Time to use them!

thank you courtney for your beautiful and full of inspiration ideas!!! just a guestion: how can we remove dust from dried flowers- bouquets?
Courtney says
You can use a hair dryer on low or something similar like compressed air to ‘dust’ off.
