‘I’m Dreaming of a …Vintage White Christmas‘
Just like the ones I used to know. With snowy branches and colorful baubles and houses dressed in lights like Christmas trees.
Today we care moving along to the 4th tree in the French Country Cottage 12 Trees of Christmas- AND I am kicking off Balsam Hills 12 Trees of Christmas and today it is ALL about Vintage Inspired Whimsical Christmas.
Christmas Past
Something that has resonated strongly with me this holiday season is tossing it back to Christmas past. Those memories of a simpler time- when Christmas was a carefree celebration with family and friends and full of fun memories being made.
There is no way around that Christmas is feeling a whole lot different this year. Christmas is still full of all the beauty and magic that Christmas brings- but there are also feelings of unsettledness and anxiousness. I guess you could say that the holidays are feeling a tad complicated this year.
To be honest, this year more than ever, I am craving those simpler times and getting back to what Christmas was like back.in.the.day. I started thinking back to childhood favorite memories and some of those little things that I remembered the most. Like the feeling of my cozy footie pajamas and laying under the Christmas tree branches and staring up at it while it twinkled away.
All the Christmas magic that filled the house as my mom dressed each room with a bit of holiday cheer and it was like the house was waking up by twinkle light all season long. The Santa Party when ‘Santa’ came to the house and all of my friends and I were so excited to dress up in fancy holiday attire and sit on the floor around Santa while he told stories. Christmas Eve and the anticipation knowing my grand parents were coming early the next morning and the house was going to be full of laughter, hugs and so much fun.
And a favorite tradition that we did with our kids as well- hopping in the car and driving around to look at Christmas lights. The houses looked like gingerbread houses with every detail wearing a strand of twinkly magic. The peak of the rooflines and doorways dressed with greens and colorful bulbs glowing away. And the windows that offered a glimpse inside. The ones where you could see the different Christmas trees twinkling away and almost feel the warmth of the room they were in. I remember always being so enamored by the different decorations and looks that each house had and how the small winding roads in our neighborhood felt like they were in a little old fashioned town- somewhere far from from the busy suburb we lived in.
That feeling and all the magic of Christmas past- when times were simpler- inspired me to decorate a tree this season that brought back that nostalgia from childhood holidays- full of colorful lights and an extra sprinkle of Christmas magic.
Deck the Halls
This Balsam Hill Frosted Balsam Fir tree is absolute frosted twinkly golden glow gorgeousness on repeat.
The tree by itself without any decorations is beyond beautiful but channeling that vintage childhood toss back feeling- I covered it in color -with vintage and new baubles in shades of pastels, whites and silver and gold- with an occasional pop of vintage green and blue and red. I love how it makes this tree feel like it is from yesteryear- and with the barn roof trimmed with vintage Christmas color lights- it is a picture of nostalgic holiday charm.
Those strands of pretty pastel lights along the gables created a wee gingerbread house right in the backyard. Yes, those are colorful Christmas lights… have I mentioned I am on a mission to bring back that vintage Christmas goodness?
At night- this twinkling tree and vintage lights absolute glow across the yard.
Snow sprinkled Charm
A snow sprinkled tree was the perfect choice for creating a nostalgic tree.
Full of mini mercury glass ornaments in red and silver, white and silvery vintage inspired blue ornaments- along with various vintage baubles.
With those beautiful candlelight lights – this tree absolutely glows with vintage & inspired charm.
And there is a twist with this tree. A very Christmas Vacation kind of twist.
Colorful Christmas Secret
That twist is just a simple press of a button on the remote- and you too can channel your Clark Griswold side and have all that vintage Christmas magic on repeat.
With a quick change of adding color lights- the tree takes on a whole new feeling and a whole lot of Merry & Bright Vintage Inspired Christmas Magic. This tree has options for candlelight (white) lights, color & candlelight lights and color lights- each by themselves. I love the simple white lights of course- and love that when you mix the color and clear- they have a beautiful pastel color glow.
And instantly- I am reminded of those childhood gingerbread houses. The ones full of so much magic that held my stare out the car window and kept me asking my dad to drive thought just one more neighborhood before heading home.
It is different kind of look than I usually do (hello colorful lights!! haha) but I have to say, I am absolutely in love with how whimsical and beautiful it turned out and I love the feeling it brings.
So even if Christmas celebrations and traditions look different this year- the meaning of Christmas is there. And Christmas will be still be full of all the wonder, magic and beauty that the season brings.
Stay tuned for more-including a very merry silkie chicken coop- did you notice my helpers in a few photos? I brought a few of our sweet hens out while I worked on this styling. They seemed to approve. 🙂
And take a peek at a quick behind the scenes video I created as well- (once I get it to load!) and stay tuned for more on that with a couple of upcoming Christmas workshops.
