It is all about cozy ambiance on repeat this week. And of course, cozy goes hand in hand with warm cracking fires in a fireplace – but what if you don’t have a fireplace in your home and you want to add all the cozy feelings? Well, today is about just that and 5 ways to add cozy winter ambiance.

Cozy winter Ambiance

When you think of winter and cozy ambiance in the house- what do you think of? I would venture to say that most of us think of warm fires, glowing and crackling and just toasting us up as we sit by them. But not all homes have fireplaces so what do you do to add ambiance in that case? There are several different things that can definitely bring that magic to the house- no hauling firewood needed!
Faux Flickering Candles
Bring on the candle cozy. And repeat. And repeat.
This is such an easy way to warm up the house with ambiance. And even better- use faux on a timer. We have faux flickering flame candles in sconces on our fireplace mantel area. They are set on a timer and every evening around 6:30pm they start to flicker and add such a lovely glow- without us doing anything. They flicker away fro 4 hours and then turn off automatically. Aside from the hands off factor- they are safe. No burning wax and no fire danger.

Flickering Light Bulbs
Did you know this was a thing? It really is. And those faux flickering lightbulbs have so much warmth and ambiance. Replace your standard bulbs in your chandeliers or lights with bulbs that dance a bit and watch the ambiance happen.

Add a Dimmer Switch
This is going to sound so crazy but dimming the lights a bit really does set the mood and create a cozy atmosphere in a room. Especially if you have the flickering flame bulbs and candles going. You can add a dimmer to a plug in light easily with a dimmer cord. We have one on the chandelier in the barn, I simply adjust the amount of light I want right on the extension cord. Easy easy easy. Of course you could also have an electrician add dimmer switches to your light switch- they are an easy swap and it is so nice to be able to adjust the lighting as you would like.

Fairy Light Strands
Bring those fairy lights from the holidays back out. Add them to non working fireplaces in the firebox or on top of the mantel. Drape on sideboards or even on statuary for a touch of magic. Place in a bowl with seasonal touches, etc.

Faux Firebox/ Wood Stove
Okay this one is different than a faux fireplace mantel- which has the firebox and you can decorate that. I am talking about a faux fireplace that has faux flames and adds ambiance & even some heat. This can be a wonderful way to add a little ambiance and cozy in any corner. In another idea- if you have a faux fireplace mantel and want to warm up the firebox with something other than fairy lights or candles- tucking in a faux log/flame might be something you enjoy as well. *Just be sure that whichever style or faux firebox you choose doesn’t require any fancy hookups or venting.
