Cozy and autumn just kind of go hand in hand don’t they? It brings thoughts of sweater weather, boots and hot cups of cider. Warm sunshine and crisp evenings by the fire. Colorful leaves and pumpkins on porches on repeat. And inside your home- it is all about creating a cozy autumn home. Today we are talking about 7 easy ways to do that.
Cozy Autumn Home
One of my favorite things about creating a cozy autumn home? Bringing out those layers.

Layers of lovely
Layers upon layers of lovely coziness are perfect for adding warmth. Think layering blankets on the sofa or adding a few more plush throw pillows to sink into on the sofa.

Candles in abundance
Whether you decide to fill your firebox with candles, add them to the coffee table or light a couple of sconces- candles just bring a cozy ambiance anywhere you use them. And don’t wait for evenings to enjoy them- you can light those candles anytime -especially on a moody, rainy or overcast day. Don’t be afraid to substitute faux candles for safety- they bring a lovely warmth as well and you don’t have to worry about leaving them on while you go about your day.

Add a Lamp
I recently thrifted this delightful brass lamp and this lovely little lampshade. I wanted a cozy corner in the kitchen and since I brought them home- this corner has been glowing all day and evening and adding so much warmth and charm. I think between both of them- they were about $5- and obviously well worth the price. The brass lamp brings warmth by itself but the dainty little floral print shade paired with it is perfection. Just a quick unsettled snap for instagram stories when setting it up – I will share what this corner looks like styled for fall soon.

Add a cozy rug
Warmth underfoot is another way to add a layer of lovely cozy to your home. I love vintage rugs for their well worn, well loved look but there are so many reproductions out there now too that give you the same look in a snap.

Create a fireplace moment
Even if you don’t have a real or working fireplace- you can absolutely enjoy a fireplace moment full of all the crackling and dancing flames. Go faux for your fireplace- and make sure it is one that has a flame feature. Put a fireplace ‘mood’ on the t.v. with a screensaver. Bring out a heater that also has faux ‘flames’ for a charming look. Or -add a lit village feature to a firebox for a sweet look. I like to leave our fireplace village up all year long and enjoy that glow.

Fairy Lights
Battery operated fairy lights are another way to add a little layer of magic and charm and cozy up your home. Use them on a mantel, inside a glass vase or simply on the coffee table for a cozy touch.
Add Potpourri or Bake Something Cozy
So simple and delicious too! Bake a loaf of bread, muffins, cookies, etc. and fill your home with a burst of warm cozy home smells. It sounds crazy but it is kind of like burning potpourri – it adds so much warmth to your home and just makes you feel more cozy. We are not eating any regular breads yet but recently I pulled my starter out of the fridge after about 5 months and fed it and have been baking a couple of loaves of sourdough for others to enjoy recently. Even though I am not nibbling on the bread- it is such a fun process and the house smells amazing.

Oh, how lovely. I love the season and fortunately, in Southern California, we’re receiving cooler weather. I hope it stays this way for awhile.
Everything looks autumnal at your cottage.
