Sometimes you find something that stops you in your tracks. Maybe it is the color. Or the particular style of the piece. Or the details like carvings and the fabric. And sometimes it is all the above. Like this treasure in our post about Love it or Leave it treasure hunting today. And it is a good one folks- a beautiful antique settee with the most delicious cinnamon /burnt orange color and details all around.

Antique Settee & that Velvet!
I mean… can you even imagine me bringing home something with a burnt orange/cinnamon color velvet like this? It is definitely not my usual color palette- but it is So striking.
And you may not know that not all the pieces I bring home land in the house to be in my decor year round. Some of them are seasonal pieces that are mixed in for seasonal looks – and some of them are for my photography business as well. This one ticks both of those boxes- and it just plain looks beautiful everywhere. Seasonal stories are already in the works and photography lists are already being made. I just grabbed a few faux flowers for this share but when it is properly styled – it is going to be beautiful.

Settee Details
This antique settee was another marketplace find- and honestly, I messaged pretty quickly after finding it. We were on the road out of town and I reached out and see if it was available. It was but it took us a few days for our schedules to align before we could go see it in person and though I was fairly certain it was coming home with me from the get go- once we got there, it was an instant LOAD IT UP.

The carvings are insane- so soo pretty. There are roses and shells on the legs, roses and swirls on the back and the apron is covered with carvings as well. The velvet fabric? Sigh… I am a sucker for vintage pieces with velvet and though the cinnamon pumpkin rust color is not my usual draw- I was majorly sucked into this one. I worked on some photography projects with various velvet ribbons in the past couple of years and my absolute go to favorite was a cinnamon velvet. It is stunning in styling and photography. So I knew this color would be a knock out.

Age & History
I am not sure exactly how old this antique settee is-anyone have any idea? The seller told me they had owned this for 35 years and bought it at an antique shop originally. The fabric is the original fabric and the inside has the original horse hair stuffing.

Here is what Google says about this style of furniture:
Victorian Furniture (c. 1837-1901):
Time Period: Queen Victoria’s reign, from 1837 to 1901
Materials: Mahogany, rosewood, and walnut were common, often with intricate carvings and inlays.
Style: Characterized by heavy, ornate designs, often with dark finishes and rich colors.
Motifs: Naturalistic motifs like flowers, leaves, and vines were popular.
My take: It is a beauty however old it is. The previous owners loved it and took wonderful care of the wood and the velvet so it is really in lovely condition.
Price
I have seen old antique settee pieces like this anywhere from FREE to thousands of dollars. The Free are usually offered with issues- needs upholstery, frame work, etc. and the ones that are more expense are in good original condition and more unique than what you usually find. I have seen many of these over the years and while I can appreciate their style – often they just haven’t spoken to me. Color, frame, I don’t know. But this one was different and it made me take another look. It was priced at $300, which I think is pretty good for the condition it is in and the unique charm this piece has.
What do you think of this piece? Would you love it or leave it? Stay tuned for a proper photo shoot of this beauty coming your way.

it’s beautiful and a steal at$300! I had a chaise lounge very much like that (my daughter has it now) and the carving quality is very similar. I bought mine 40 years ago and it was a knock off of a classic English piece from India. enjoy it in good health!
I love it!!!
I use to have one like this but when i moved my family gave it to good goodwill i wany it back boo hoo
my grandparents had this type of furniture.i have some from them.i would say 1920s.its a beautiful piece..
I LOVE it and the color is stunning
How amazing for autumn! I can just see what you will do with it . . . Congrats!
I would love it! I am rethinking beautiful wood carved antiques. My husband and i loved them when we were first married over 50 years ago. and have several we’ve collected. Then they have seemed very out of style. But I still love them, and this antique settee! I realize I like every room to have a beautiful antique along with more modern styles. Eccletic does it for us, but not a whole room of heavy furniture.
This piece is amazinand 100.00 is a ridiculous price. You always get the best stuff.
amazing and Geez.
I love this settee just as it is!
LOVE IT!!!

love it! absolutely would have Purchased this gorgeous settee!❤
I think you are right in there. I was going to say definitely Victorian I was guessing about 1880. It is gorgeous and I think a great buy. I would have left it though, just because it is a bit fussy for my taste. Courtney you always find drual worthy furniture and accessories. Great job. Loved seeing it and love the color.
I love your settee! The rich color would’ve also made me choose it for my house! i think antiques make a room. It looks like it has been cherished. Lucky you!
Definitely love it!
Hi Courtney, What a striking piece! It’s quiet stunning! The carvings are intricate yet not overly ornate. The velvet fabric is rich and luxurious. At the same time this settee Is gracious and charming. This is the kind of setee that has a story to tell. It speaks to you softly and says “Please sit, have a cup of tea and some of my fresh baked biscuits. Relax and stay a while, whats the rush.” I can only imagine the stories behind this settee … Now it’s your turn to create new stories of your own. This is a settee you can base a book on. I see it on the cover of a new book. Lovely!
Love it!!! Gorgeous velvet color which looks soooo good with a blue/green paint color! Great price too, IMO!

well I’m a sucker for ornate carved and velvet furniture. however I would have left it because I had so many pieces over the years that I had to sell due to no room in home for any furniture. clutter and hoarder is my nickname for beautiful furniture…lol
Very nice! great find. i would not have thought to pair it with pink flowers, but it looks great. What type of flowers are those, i know you said they were fake, but i’m looking into fake flowers for my home and these are pretty. nice flowers are hard to find.
Love it!
