A little vintage and floral mingle is always a good thing don’t you think? Especially when it comes to something with a more masculine feeling mingling with beautiful seasonal flowers. Vintage Carpenters Trunk Box
A lovely old wooden treasure with a lid and old lining that is covered in years of patina and original black paint. I adored it right away when I saw it- and when I opened it up, fell in love even more.
Chippy black paint with rubbed areas showing the wood underneath creates such a charming look. Inside, it is lined with metal and has a couple layers with old metal trays that slide and move.
The lady at the thrift told me it was a carpenters trunk/box and was used for storing tools and bits like screws, etc. I loved that it had a lid that lifted up and had so much more charm inside. The inside top has an old tin portrait that may or may not be original to the trunk- but it looks so sweet either way.
Of course when I found this old trunk at the thrift store, I knew just what I would be using it for.
I filled the trunk with flowers for a few photos. Originally, I photographed this for my floral book, but we set it aside for my new book SEASONS and it was a perfect fit.

Hi Courtney – I love this idea, taking something so integral to work life and giving it new purpose while still honoring its past. when I saw the portrait of the young woman inside the cover, I knew you had something special..my Dad was a machinist and a tinkerer. he had a wooden tool chest similar to the one you purchased and inside the cover he had installed a photo of my mother in a 2 piece bathing suit. this would have been in the 1940’s I think, but yours looks older. it must have been a tradition to have a photo of your sweetheart with you during the daily grind of work, perhaps to remind the men of whom they toiled for; much like the pinup girl posters of yesteryear, or the flirty posters of women that soldiers had to remind them of home.
Courtney, I love that vintage carpenter’s box! The flowers just add to the beauty of it! So looking forward to getting my book!
