Can you fall in love with a piece of architectural salvage? Something covered in old paint. Chippy patina. Well weathered and worn. I am saying yes. Because I did. And it isn’t the first time for sure. But it is the first time I fell in love with a set of vintage carriage house doors and was able to snag them and bring them home with me. And you know what? These are worth all that waiting and missing the ones that got away.

Vintage Carriage House Doors
Where to begin with these. They were a marketplace find of course and I happened upon them just upon opening the marketplace. I wasn’t searching for doors, though I do keep an eye out all the time for architectural salvage so they may have been in the algorithm for that reason.

I mentioned before that I use a lot of pieces of random furniture and architectural pieces for my photography work so I do often bring the odd ball finds home with me to play with. But these are far from odd ball finds. These are treasures folks. There are 3 of these beautiful old doors- they are each about 8′ tall and 4′ wide so 12′ long beauty if placing them all together. I am sharing just 1 of the doors today because that is the only one I have brought into the house so far.

I have tried to buy old carriage house doors off marketplace several times and have not been successful until now. I knew they would get a ton of messages about them – especially at the price. I chatted with the seller and said I would take them and was excited to get a message the next morning letting me know the times we could come by and pick them up.

1940’s Carriage House or Barn or Garage Doors
I believe they are garage/carriage house doors based on the hardware and details. Like the little pull chain to open the latch and the original hardware. But they could just as easily have been on an old building like a barn or shop.

They are built with wood panes below and 6 window panes above. I added some vintage fabric behind the windows to show how sweet they could look with a little detail like this.

They have chunky hinges though unfortunately several of them are missing. I will try to find some vintage ones that are similar- but color matching that paint and patina might prove tricky.
John Deere Green Patina

On one side, they are old painted creamy white. The other, a delicious John Deere green that is knocking my socks off. I have a few favorite colors I am always drawn to and greens are one of them. I love a pop of vintage green in decor and have it sprinkled here and there in the house. And this green is just delightful- it will be so beautiful for photos. The seller was surprised at first that I wasn’t planning to redo the paint and give them a fresh coat. That green had me at hello!

While these were loaded in the back of my husbands truck, we stopped at the nursery to pick up a few plants and the color of the blue delphinium and pink foxgloves against the green door was giving me all the inspiration right there.
Where will they go
Well, we are adding some stability support to be able to stand them up for backdrops. But they are honestly inspiring me to create a space for them to live in year round. Thinking of maybe doing a small room addition on the barn or potting shed or I have a couple of ideas for enjoying these somewhere in the house as well.
How much were they?
So, what do you think the price was for these 1940’s beauties?
They were $100 each- so $300 for all 3. Of course they are not perfect and have a few issues but I think that was a pretty great price compared to what I have seen them listed for before.
What do you think? Would you love them or leave them? Which is your favorite look- White or Green?
Something Special
I am spilling the beans on a couple exciting things that all those April showers have been turning into May flowers. And they are finally starting to bloom this week!!! 🌸 Come by Thursday morning for all the details and fun!

Happy treasure hunting friends!

Love them!
Its like you got 2 for 1 – green when you want, and White for a different look! Congrats!
I finally have the gopher answer! Ferret poop! Gophers and moles are afraid of ferrets! If they smell the Ferret poop they leave because they fear a Ferret ripping them apart! where to find Ferret poop, I have no idea! oh, the doors are lovely!
oh the green for sure. You lucky duck, they are fabulous. Love the fabric behind I did something similar with an old porch screen door I bought to close off our laundry room. The copper screen and door for the mail had me at hello. Can’t wait to see how you use them I know i will be delighted.
I love them! Can’t wit to see their new home.
Can wait to see what you will do with these. I love them too. I like the creamy white myself since you asked….

I absolutely love them! all three! I’m very partial to anything chippy White. wrought iron or wood. I look forward to seeing what you do with them. I think it’s fun that you have two color choices.
Vintage finds are wonderful! Those will add much architectural interest to any space. great find!
I love the green which is odd because I love anything chippy white. I think 100.00 dollars is a very fair price. They are solid wood I’m sure and the hardward is incrediable. I would use them as a door somewhere.
That shade of green makes my heart sing! What an excellent find.
Oh how i love the doors! Both colors are beautiful. Well worth the inexpensive price i feel.
