I often ask myself why I seem to always find the most random things in my Facebook marketplace feed. Of course there are the usual antique chairs, vintage French decor delights, old pine furniture and garden bits and even vintage Ralph Lauren fabrics that pop up. I search them often, so the algorithm does the thing and makes sense. But then sometimes, there are the weird and random things that you didn’t know you needed. Like a 12’ long antique sawmill counter.
Antique Sawmill Counter
Was Facebook noticing that I have searched for long antique tables? Maybe so. But also… why did I instantly bookmark it and decide to show it to my husband? And then proceed to message them and purchase it? Well, I suppose it all started with the antique cupboard and table we have in the dining room. Let’s jump in.

Antique Cupboard
You have probably seen this cupboard many times on my blog – it is a knock out. And Such an incredible find. And also from Marketplace. It has delicious patina and character and is a most amazing size- over 14.5’ long. You can see it when we first brought it home in this post HERE

Since the cupboard fills this wall so perfectly, I wanted a long table to balance it as well.
Antique Table
This farm table is such a beauty. It has a well loved painted patina and a perfect narrow width – as in only 25” wide. I love it and it is perfect for our everyday use but it is admittedly a bit on the skinny side when serving guests. Not a big deal- if we have large place settings when we have had company, we usually set up a second table so we can offset the plates just a bit. It is also a couple feet shy of being the perfect length for the cupboard and dining space. You can see below how this table at 9’ long is a near perfect fit in scale and color- it fit nearly 3 sections length of the 4 sections of the cupboard.

So naturally, when I saw this 12’ antique sawmill counter, it was instantly reimagined as a quick change tabletop in my mind.
Old Patina
This beauty was from an old sawmill that had long gone out of business. It was covered in wonderful old patina on one side, a little rough on the other. There are old holes from vises and machinery and it is a single slab of wood – which at about 30” wide and 12’ long is amazing to find. It has one rounded edge and one raw edge. I am all about patina and don’t mind dings, scratches or even the holes in the top in areas- I think it all adds to the character of the piece and tells a story about the lives it has lived.

I figured we could bring it in and place it on top of the table already there as needed for when we are serving friends and family – or create another table with more reclaimed wood. Either way, the wood slab and all that patina was such a beauty.

We sprayed it down and cleaned it well, let it dry in the sun and then brought it inside and placed it on top of the table and it filled the space perfectly. I will admit that I absolutely love my white farmhouse table here already and since we don’t need the extra long and wide table everyday- I have a few ideas for this beauty. I am planning to find some old farm table legs and old weathered wood for the frame and reimagine this beauty as a new table that we can use in this spot or on the patio with mismatched farmhouse chairs.

But for a simple and easy change and a whole lot of charm- this is such a beautiful look.

What do you think of how it looks as a table top? Would you consider it as a possibility for a quick change or turning into a table?
