Bringing those English cottage and French Country floral covered rooms back – and I am starting with the walls with vintage floral wallpaper. They like to call it ‘GrandMillennial’ style or ‘cottage core’- however you like to think of it. But to me-flowers on the walls and everywhere else is design isn’t a trend- it is classic English country French cottage charm and style and something that I love.
I have been on babysitting duty this week so am a bit behind getting this post wrapped up – but I am in love with so many of these pretty papers- I wanted to share with you.
Vintage Floral Wallpaper
I am admittedly obsessed with all things flower filled- it isn’t a secret. From buckets of blooms on the table to hand painted floral furniture to blooming curtains and duvets. I pretty much think flower patterns belong everywhere. And everywhere is where they go in our home. Remember this floral wallpaper in the bathroom? I loved it and left it up under the wood planks. I may have to uncover it at some point.

I have layers of lovely flowers on my bedroom in the softly faded floral duvet cover and pillows. There are painted flowers on the armoire in the hallway and vintage floral wallpaper under the beaded board panels in one of the bedrooms. Yes, I have thought about removing those panels to bring that pretty look back. And I just might do that if I can convince my husband that we need to.

Since we have wood plank walls in every room in our cottage- we don’t have a whole lot of wallpaper area without covering up the wood. And I love the wood- the knotty pine is a beautiful backdrop and adds a lot of character while also being neutral. But part of me craves that flower filled backdrop that we had in the bedroom years ago. And as you know, I have been thinking of adding some wallpaper to the attic. I haven’t done it yet. I thought I found a lovely paper- but it just wasn’t THE ONE for the room. It didn’t exude English cottage French country vintage cozy attic room charm. So I have been shopping and shopping and shopping and some more. I have found many lovely papers- but I am so particular -which is part of the problem. It needs to have the right colors. The right scale. The right pattern and the right overall look. Plus- it needs to be vintage or at least feel and look vintage.

I have found some lovely British companies making all the perfect patterns, though cost wise, they are a bit more and then of course, shipping to the U.S. So, of course, I jumped into shopping one of my favorite places for pretty much everything and rounded up some of my favorites there for you. But first- let’s talk about floral wallpaper. For me – I am always drawn to two different looks- bold (as in size of blooms) and dainty.
Bold and Beautiful
Bold and beautiful floral wallpapers to me are the ones that speak the most vintage English country cottage charm. I love big bouquets with English roses, vines and all that charm. On the wall- they exude a very old fashioned feeling and wrap the room in florals- and I think in many ways they are more of a ‘grown up’ flower look for a bedroom.
Dainty and Delicate
On the opposite side- I also love dainty ditsy floral patterns. Those small scale flowers but all over patterns that really bring an old fashioned dollhouse or childhood kind of feeling. They are perfect for papering all over the walls and ceiling to really wrap the room in warm and cozy feelings.
Peel and Stick or Paste
You can choose something that is easy to apply and remove like a peel and stick- or a paste wallpaper that is more traditional. They both have pros and cons- I find it harder to find the patterns that I am loving in a peel and stick. And I have heard that peel and stick can be harder to work with since you really need to get your placement pretty perfect the first time. That said- wallpaper paste is definitely more involved with brushing on the paste and positioning on the wall. Both types you need to get the bubbles out and make sure they are smooth. So just go with whichever you prefer and which one has the pattern you love.
It’s not just ‘wallpaper’
You can bring in a little bit of wallpaper pretty nearly anywhere in a small touch if you don’t want the overall flowers on the wall look. Use it on the walls (of course) in any room- but think outside the box. Walls and ceilings. Back of hutches, cupboards and armoires. Inside an old frame like it is artwork. On furniture, etc.

Beautiful! I’m excited to see what you choose!
which rooms will you be wallpapering?
I love the old fashioned romance of these lovely prints. They remind me of my favorite Jane Austin and Bronte sisters stories. Your beadboard and wallpaper restroom takes me to a beautiful and serene Place where I’d be likely to go in and never come out!
I really appreciate a ditsy flower. I’m not sure why but even in tops I tend to lean that direction. I can’t wait to see what you do.
Luv these wallpapers…and, I too, live w/log walls…I’m “trying” backdrops for photo studios. They have a placket already for hanging…a tension rod ready…we’ll see when it arrives…yes, from England…franki
