Just a little cottage
touched by a little bit of Christmas magic.
Fresh greens, garlands and wreaths
silver and gold and shiny ornaments.
I love decking the halls and look forward to the Christmas season all year.
I spend hours (okay.. maybe more like days) planning and then I
put on the Christmas music and start pulling the trees out from storage
setting them up and decorating them.
Next it is onto the garlands, decorating the fireplaces and smaller vignettes
Today I am sharing our guest cottage
wearing it’s Holiday greens, garlands and wreaths
It might be just a little cottage but it isn’t small on character.
With it’s open beamed ceiling
beaded board walls and painted floors it has a very vintage cottage feeling.
I love the light with all the windows and even the quirks~ the uneven floors
and not perfectly straight walls.
Originally built sometime around 1940 ~ it is filled with vintage charm.
I’m sharing just a few photos of each space today~ this post is going to be long already
and I have many more details and views to share so they will each be in separate posts.
The living room
With vintage books galore on the built in bookshelves and an oversized
antique mirror on the mantel
the living room is my favorite space in the cottage.
I adore the peaked beamed ceilings covered in whitewashed boards
and those bookcases- they hold a lot of books and a lot of great memories
with both of my sons helping to build them.
For Christmas
the fireplace is dressed in fresh Christmas greens garland
and a simple fresh wreath hangs on the mirror.
There are a lot of pinecones in the cottage and in our home…
they are favorites. 🙂
Loving fresh mixed greens- some pine and cedar mixed with boxwood and other greenery
as well as simple whites this year.
Just a few handful sized baubles appear here and there on the books or the table
The new Balsam Hill Christmas tree is one of my favorites
To read more about it- and find out about it’s little secret
you can find it here
Across the room is the little
dining area
Since they share a room, I don’t add too much so as not to overload the space.
The dining area is simply dressed
wearing white plates on the wall and a fresh wreath on the vintage door
I love natural touches everywhere~ this small living tree placed is placed in silver
for adorning the table and little fresh wreaths hang on the windows
Always in fashion around here~ white dishes
love the mix of vintage with new
A sweet and simple touch of red with the striped bow
The kitchen
The kitchen in the cottage is open to the living and dining areas as well
and it was recently remodeled using some vintage and some new for under $800
you can read more here
Love a fresh wreath on the chalkboard~ something about the green on the chalk covered board
The kitchen sits right at the edge of the stair and so railing was draped in garland and also got a
little bit of whimsy this year with vintage skates
and an old hand carved antique rocking horse
They are both added for a few photos for something special so these areas will be changing.
The bathroom
has a sweet little potted tree
and wee wreath
In the bedroom
it’s all about soft & sweet
with a little bit of Merry & Bright
In love with this antique painted bed all dressed in white linens and ready for guests.
The bed is circa 1920-30-ish I think and the headboard and footboard show it’s age with wear & tear
but even so I am in love with all of it’s details and charm
So there you have it
a little tour of the little cottage with a touch of Christmas.
I will share more views and details of each of the rooms in separate posts soon and
I also have a full sized tree that I didn’t share yet that is in the cottage living room
It is getting it’s holiday on and will be ready soon.

Very, very pretty. I live in a craftsman cottage and so love cottage style. I also live in a 1940's cottage in England part of the year, where I will be for Christmas this year. I see you love to decorate with natural elements. I do too. Yesterday my daughter and I made several grape vine wreaths. They look spectacular just as they are. 🙂

Hi Kristi,
It came from either Lowe's or Costco. I am pretty sure it was Lowe's though. Hope that helps!

Thanks for responding! Is it an electric fireplace with attached mantel or just a mantel?
