Foraged natural Christmas decor is my favorite. Today I am sharing a few ideas for using foraged and found in your decorating this year.
Pinecones
Though we have a lot of evergreen trees on our property- we don’t get too many pinecones. But we do find a lot of pinecones each year while up in the mountains on hikes and sometimes, my husband will bring an empty backpack and fill it up with them. Pinecones are easy to tuck into the tree, wreaths and garlands and look beautiful when stacked in bowls or simply scattered about.
Fresh greens
A few clippings of fresh greens is such a simple, easy way to sprinkle a little merry & bright anywhere.
You don’t need bunches of them – just a few sprigs tucked into an arrangement or placed on a table is perfect.
Fruit
Fruit is probably my favorite way to bring something natural into Christmas decor. My favorites are pears, pomegranate, citrus and persimmon- but you can use apples, grapes, etc. whatever speaks to you the most.
Tuck them into some fresh greens in a cupboard. Add them to a garland centerpiece on the table. Bring a bowl of them to a side table or kitchen island with some greens. There are so many possibilities. And fruit is wonderful to use because it will last a long time (as opposed to fresh greens that will dry fairly quickly)
Dried Fruit
Another thing I love to do with fruit is it try use dried orange and apple slices and whole oranges. they are easy to make and last several seasons- I will share a tutorial on how I made these soon.
Foraged arrangement
Dried flowers and fresh foraged flowers and greens from your yard are beautiful for Christmas arrangements. You can use freshly gathered flowers and greens and also dried. Pick and enjoy seasonal blooms all year long- and when they start to dry out – save them for using again during the holidays.
Don’t be afraid to mingle fresh with dried- it is a combination that works beautifully.
I hope this gives you some ideas for adding foraged and found to your holiday decor.

adore pinecones for Both fall & winter decor. I always pick up a few when I’m on a walk & when I have severaL, i place in a low oven on a sheet of foil & the sap turns into a beautifUl, rich sheen that gives the pinecones a lovely depth. Depending on the look & color scheme I want, sometimes I bleach them & that beigey tone is also lovely. What’s great about both of these treatments. Is that you won’t have to worry about bugs or sticky sap!
