It has been a bit of a whirlwind of a couple of busy weeks over here – but one thing we always seem to enjoy fitting in is doing a bit of treasure hunting and finding all those junking treasures.
My brother and his family came to visit for a couple of days recently and my twin nieces had one request- they wanted to go junking and find some beautiful treasures to bring home with them. Say no more- we lined up 5 of our favorite thrifting stops for an afternoon of hunting for junking treasures.
Junking Treasures
While we definitely don’t look for the same things while on a treasure hunt- the thrill of the hunt was felt all around. My nieces are already pro treasure seekers and they have a great eye. They call thrifting ‘antiquing’ which is really what we are doing most of the time. Searching the thrifts for antique bits. And my brother and sister in law are the same. Though they seemed to be more drawn to everyday things like kitchen finds, clothing, etc. The good news- thrift stores offer something for everyone and I suppose the thrifting gene runs in the family. While they gathered their favorites- we gathered up some of ours. Sharing a few of the things I brought home recently.
Vintage Goblets
I can’t seem to resist bringing home chunky vintage goblets. It is almost bordering on the vintage chair obsession I have at this point. With several big entertaining events coming up – all things table top speak to me and are a new weakness.
We were wandering down an aisle when we bumped into a set of 32 vintage goblets. 8 of 4 different sizes but all the same pattern. I paused. I sighed. I picked one up and looked at it. Put it back. Argued with myself back and forth in my mind. My brother said ‘you could always pick up a couple of them to bring home with you’. Which is true. But you see, when I find a set… especially a set of 32 – it is either all or nothing. So I debated and a worker at the store walked by and said ‘ I think you need them.’ haha! I love a good enabler- and as you can see, they came home with me.
They are a beautiful shade of what I am calling ‘root beer’ -but actually a tad lighter in the light than they are here. Absolutely beautiful for autumn tables and events. Vintage goblets at the thrifts here usually run between $3-$10 each. These ran from $3 -$5.
Vintage Silverplate Flatware
Another thrift store, another weakness. Vintage silver-plate is honestly is something I always look at and consider adding to my collection. Fun fact: We use vintage silver plate flatware as our everyday flatware so they are used daily and so, one of the ways I justify adding pieces.
I don’t often find a whole set, so good thing that I like the mix and mingle. This day, I found a basket full of various pieces for $1 each -and it was Veterans & law enforcement discount day- which my husband is both- so they were about $.75 each. I picked out the pieces that talked to me and managed to find a chunk of them.
Vintage Lace Tablecloths
Oh what a weakness these have become for me! While I always grab crochet doilies and vintage hankies to use as napkins – I don’t always find the really lovely old handmade crochet lace tablecloths. It was a banner day for vintage linens that day- enough so that while I was gathering up another tablecloth- one of my nieces said ‘ Don’t you think you should get a tablecloth in a DIFFERENT color and style now? All the ones you have look the same’ She is a sassy one haha- I laughed and told her I am obsessed and I am okay with it and you can never have too many of those vintage lace tablecloths.
I was actually a little giddy about a couple of them that I found. Really thick crochet in lovely patterns and in wonderful condition. I am envisioning lots of tables with lots of mix and mingle tablecloths and place setting elements coming up on the lawn.
Other than a few other knick knack type things- a vintage wood mantel clock, vintage bowls, candle holders and an etched vase- the theme of the day was mostly the above in a big way. Most of the time vintage lace tablecloths like these run around $8-$20 depending on the size. These are fairly large and were in the $8- $12 range in really good condition. I also picked up 2 vintage floral sheets for the beds in the attic or in the Avion trailer.

Hi Mary Beth-I agree with you…I need some places to thrift that are somewhat local. I’m in Solano County and I often joke that I live in a ‘thrifting wasteland’ out here. Seriously, it really is that bad. I’d love to find things like Courtney just listed. The places out here are all about the clothes (something I’m absolutely not about).

I do go to Le marche in Martinez occasionally. They are open four days once a month. you can check them out on Facebook or Instagram.

Absolutely would have bought all of it! My weakness for crocheted tablecloths and pretty linens is ridiculous. I love the silverplate as well! And those sheets are so sweet.
