You might have noticed that I am a bit obsessed with all the candlesticks with all the wax drips on them. It is almost like if I light a candle- I am waiting on the wax drips before I do anything with it. Because, those wax drip candle holders are key to all kinds of ambiance and charm on the table or wherever you place them.
Wax Drip Candle Holder
Did you know that I have literally spent hours dripping wax on candle holders? Usually, I let it happen as it does with a little breeze on the table- but sometimes, I am working on a deadline and behind and the lighting is just.about.right.- I will take candle drip matters into my hands.
The good news- it is so easy to do.
Wax Drip Bottle, Candelabra and more
First up- choose your candle holder. I have used wine bottles, regular bottles, candelabra’s, single stem candle holders, decanters, you name it. It doesn’t matter which you choose. Just know that once you add the wax- it does take a bit to get it off if you don’t want to leave it that way.
I recently used a couple of wine bottles and got a lot of questions about those so that is what I am sharing today.
What you Need
1. Candlestick of choice-bottles, candlesticks, candelabra, etc.
2. Taper Candles
3. Another Taper or Drip candles for dripping
4. Matches
5. Newspaper or other way to protect work space
How to Create the Wax Drips
These are screenshots of a video for Instagram so I apologize for the terrible photo quality of the dripping wax. I start by lighting the candles in place in the candlestick and then light another taper and simply hold it above the candle and let it drip, drip, drip. As it drips you will notice that some areas get more covered in wax as the wax runs down so move the candle you are dripping to cover all around. It can take some time depending on how much dripping you want on the holder and also how many different layers and colors you are looking to incorporate.
But it is a perfect rainy day activity or evening activity to get ready for your dinner party next day. While some of the wax on the bottles is from burning the candles as they naturally burn down and drip- adding a bit of ‘extra’ makes them even prettier and as you can see- it is so easy to do.
It is so simple and easy to create any kind of charming candle wax drip candle holder you would like to. And while I tend to stay with neutral colors like grays, whites, blush, cream in pretty layers- don’t be afraid to add more and more layers of candle drips in different colors that you love to create a custom look that is all your own.

my mom was doing this drip-candle hack in the 1960s when the early american look was so popular. It’s interesting how things do eventually come full circle I love the look!

I love candlesticks dripping in wax. This is a great idea to speed up the process, and I plan to share a link on my Sunday, Dirt Road Adventures.
