Sometimes you bump into something that you instantly know is coming home with you. Covered in a perfect old painted patina with the simplest of lines and the most perfect look for a flower filled moment. I bumped into this charming antique chair while out junking last week and I fell for it instantly. Sharing a little more about it and where to enjoy a chair like this one today.
Charming Antique Chair
When you think about patina- what comes to mind? A painted finish that is perfectly weathered and worn? Hand rubbed old wooden finishes? A lovely bit of age on a piece that absolutely charms? It is all the above and so much more. The ‘Perfect’ patina can be subjective. It really is about the individual piece and what speaks to you. This chair, well it has a perfect patina for what I was looking for in a sweet old wooden antique chair.
Well Loved Black Paint
I love all the well loved painted pieces for sure. Give me all the creamy white, John Deere green, aqua, blue, yellow, sweet salmon pink and more. I definitely fall in love with each of them. But something that may surprise you is that I also love vintage black painted pieces. I have collected vintage treasures wearing black paint for years and though I don’t seem to find them as often as I do other pieces- I adore them.

I brought a drop leaf table home probably 15 years ago that was wearing a lovely black paint with floral decals. Obsessed. You can find a snap of it in a couple of my books – with flowers on top of course. And then a couple of years ago I bumped into an old wood carpenters chest wearing the most lovely black patina. You will see that one making an appearance soon. And I can’t tell you how many chairs or cupboards I have bookmarked on Marketplace to inquire about if making a trek through the area. But sometimes, you just bump into one you weren’t even looking for. Like this cutie.

Antique Shop Finds
We wandered into an antique shop during a flea market and found this sweet chair just waiting for us. They were closing up when we walked in but he told us to go ahead and look around and we bumped into this chair sitting on top of a table. I pulled it down to look at it and instantly loved all the sweet details it had. I envisioned it for photography moments. For a simple vignette in the house and pulled up to a table in the garden. Being an antique shop- I figured the price would be high but I asked anyway.

Old Wood Chair
The owner instantly started telling me about the history of the chair and how he had reinforced it so it was usable. Of course, I am not one to leave a chair that talks to me behind- even if it needs work. It was all about the price and if it was going to be antique store pricing or flea market pricing. I was surprised that his shop was full of more towards flea market pricing – this chair was $20.

Where to Enjoy

Anywhere! I instantly imagined this chair with a bouquet of pink flowers- hence the photos in the garden for the share here. But you could use it in so many settings in the house as well. I love the idea of it in a bathroom with a stack of towels or simply set next to the fireplace with books and blooms for a lovely little moment.

Of course pulled up next to a table as a chair is intended to be used is perfect as well. And in other chair news- I also brought home 2 Free antique chairs last week as well. These need some new seats as the caning is damaged. I am thinking of placing a wood cutout seat on them but will update when they are fixed up.
So is it a love it or leave it for you? If you love it- where would you tuck a sweet little wooden vintage chair like this one?

what a great find. and so beautiful with your flowers. I absolutely would have taken that chair home. I probably would have put it in the garden, in the shade under the trees. I have a beautiful old black table there , where we love to have our coffee in the morning or happy hour in the evening.
This chair is very much like my greatfather had. Same color and style. My mother used to use it next to her bed. I love the one you bought.
