As I sipped my coffee, I started thinking about a vintage basket randomly one morning- and it led to 7 vintage baskets, a fallen tree branch and an old wooden beam.
Vintage Baskets
I have been collecting vintage baskets for a minute- mainly because I had a photography job that involved working on a styling in our potting shed and it required a country style charm. I am always tinkering with the overall look, style and themes when it comes to our home and work projects – it is part of what I do that I love. I get to change things and try different styles often. With this particular styling, I thought on it, jotted down some ideas and then narrowed it down to a couple things that could bring that feeling to the potting shed. And in that coffee fueled creative morning thought process- baskets was one of them that stood out.
I got to work straight away- thrift stop after thrift stop after thrift stop. Until I had a couple armfuls of lovely old baskets in different styles that were the right size.

I wanted to hang the baskets along on old tree branch that I had placed over the potting bench. After I wrapped up the photos, I enjoyed those baskets as they were for bit and then decided to bring them inside the house for a different kind of country styling.
The beam that runs between our kitchen and living room and hallway was perfect for adding a lovely English country style charm to. And so, I got out my vintage step ladder and tacked them all in place- creating a charming look for the ‘doorway’.
A Couple Ways to Enjoy Vintage Baskets for English Country Style
Baskets in decor are perfect in any country style setting. Just a couple here and there or a gathering of them layered in loveliness. Here are a couple ways I use baskets for a touch of lovely old English Country style.
1.Hanging on the wall or from branch.
Perfect for a country style touch for a garden room, potting shed or greenhouse.

- From a beam or doorway
As mentioned, from a beam or doorway or other area where you would like a little bit of country charm.

- As drawers
Perfect for holding things in the kitchen or the bathroom for storage. We replaced drawers with baskets in this spot when adding the farmhouse sink. They hold things like squash and onions and what not that doesn’t need refrigeration.

- As storage that doubles as decor
In our bathroom, I added a large basket underneath the sinks to hold towels. It doubles as storage and keeps the towels organized while also creating a charming look.

- For a Floral Arrangement
Such a lovely way to enjoy a shallow basket, with a jar or bowl placed inside for holding water, a basket is a charming look for a floral arrangement.

You can find some of these looks and more in my book IN BLOOM.
