Yesterday I asked my husband to help me hang a gorgeous,
detailed,
detailed,
brassy gold
and
heavy
mirror in my office.

I thanked him and proceeded to start to style the area a bit
and he went on his merry way
But… you know what happened.
About a half an hour later, I kept staring at that mirror.

And I wasn’t 100% happy with it.
It really should have gone up a wee bit higher
and to the left a bit more and really honestly if I wanted to admit it
back on that wall I was originally thinking…
but it was so darn heavy…
I should just let it go.

My husband made the mistake of walking by right the room about them.
So you know it happened.
It went something like this:
‘Honey… sooo that mirror…
yeah, I am not loving it where it is.
yeah, I am not loving it where it is.
I think I have to move it to a different wall.
Or at least try it on a different wall and see if it works better
and then decide where it will go.’
He stared at me blankly and shook his head.
‘Of course you need to.’
‘Oh come on- you know that you love that I am difficult.’
‘Of course I do.’
The moral of the story is-
yes, I AM difficult and is a smart man to go with it.

Needless to say- the mirror worked much better on the other wall
and of course, I had to move the furniture and everything else as well.
Because, I am difficult.
I am pretty sure it is in my job description.

I started with that old garden table with the plank top as a desk.

It is back outside where it belongs- so you know that has changed.
When I brought that garden table in for a magazine photo styling
several years ago- I loved the large space I had to work-
but I had a hard time loving it beyond that.
That is the great thing about working with print- you can change things
to be nothing like your style for a styling for a magazine.
But…

it wasn’t inspiring to me. It was more cottage than French in style.
It was bulky and not comfortable to work at and
I just didn’t feel like it was me.
On the HomeGoods blog recently, I talked about finding that
‘Inspiration Space’ and how merely ‘being’ there for a few minutes
can bring a flood of creativity.

I think work spaces or office spaces are some of the most overlooked areas in a home sometimes.
They house computers and large file cabinets and necessary paperwork piles.
They are often dark and dreary and drab when it comes to decor-
and honestly, an office can feel a little on the masculine side no matter how you spin it.
But, my husband doesn’t use this office so…
it was time for it to better reflect me.

I wanted something dainty and elegant.
With delicate lines and gilded details
and a whole lot of that French style that I adore.
There was a specific piece that stole my heart that I had a big time inkling was the one.
And when I went to High Point Market last Spring-
I saw it in person when I rounded the corner at a showroom
and I paused and whispered sweet nothings to it
and knew I was going to have to bring that beauty home with me.
So…
that piece was the starting point for the new look.
And it inspired me to change a few other things that I had been thinking about for a bit as well.
And then of course, that big mirror had to come join in the refresh.
I know we have been talking about sharing the office for weeks now-
and I apologize -a few delayed items delayed the reveal.
But I am excited to spill all the beans and links to what I used to make over my office
and share the new look with you on Monday.

Ummm, recently our contractor, in the kindest sort of way, insinuated that I am "difficult." Well, I'm not wild about that description, so we came up with "complicated." I would love to share my word with you if you like it better than "difficult." Ha! 🙂 Thank God we have such wonderful husbands who help us rearrange things…much more than once! 😉 Can't wait to see your gorgeous office! Your home sweet home is truly breathtaking!!!

How familiar is this situation…lol. arranging, and re-arranging with the assistance of the hubby.

Have you ever read Anne of Green Gables? It's a marvelous book, the main character, Anne finds a kindred spirit in her best friend, Diana. I feel as if you are mine so-to-speak, at least regarding the placement of the mirror! My husband Lovingly resists hanging up anything for me because he knows that inevitably the inch higher, or left/right, or wrong wall dilemma always follows! So, knowing that l'm in great company is a treat!
