The weather has changed a bit this week from hot to feeling fall-ish and I am absolutely loving it. I am bringing out all the cozy already- even though it is August yet. I am soaking up all the August things while working ahead on autumn. Of course with all the seasonal decor that happens – the front door is one of those key spots to welcome guests and the seasons. So a beautiful front door wearing a most delightful shade of gray blue- autumn perfection.

The best part about updating your front door color is that it is an inexpensive and easy way to give your home a makeover- and it doesn’t take long to do it. Which means you have more time for adding seasonal touches elsewhere, soaking up summer sunshine or more time for doing anything else you want to.
The Perfect Gray Blue Front Door Color

I am often asked what the color is on our front door. It is that simple and sweet perfectly perfect gray blue color that just says a warm and welcome hello. I had seen a similar color on a door before -paired with a crisp white paint it was so lovely. Our house isn’t ‘crisp’ white- more of a creamy warm white and it is just as perfect a pairing with that color too. And if you look closely, you might notice that our potting shed door is also painted the same color so also a perfect color even paired with cedar shingles. It is definitely a favorite and today we are talking front door decorations and color for Friday Favorites.
Boothbay Gray

Boothbaby Gray by Benjamin Moore is described on their website as a ‘fresh steely gray with a hint of blue’. I agree- but I feel it is more subdued gray blue – it reminds me of a soft English cotswolds blue or a warm French blue gray color. One that doesn’t feel too blue. Doesn’t feel too gray. But definitely feels like an old warm plaster color that just makes you happy.

I think it is also one of those colors that is a bit of a chameleon in the light so depending on which way your home is facing and how much sunlight or shade your door gets-it may change and look darker or lighter.
Glossy Enameled Finish
You know, I love a glossy finish on a door. I really do. It reminds me of old enameled oil painted pieces that have so much charm. We went with a gloss finish paint for the door- but it doesn’t necessarily look high gloss enough to be considered ‘high gloss’. Either way, I love how it turned out.
Tips for Choosing a Front Door Color
- Classic looks and colors are always a good idea. Think gloss black, hunter green or navy blue for something rich and a gloss red or even a pop with yellow for something fresh and classic feeling at the same time. I love rich colors for a front door like aubergine or a dark green as well. Anyone remember when our front door looked like this back when I started blogging?

2. Go for the Bold with a bold color or unexpected color paired with a neutral color on the house. It might be just the pop of pretty attention grabbing detail you are looking for. From a trip to London- these doors inspired me so.

3. Go with the same color or one that is close to the same family of colors that is on your house but in a different finish for a cohesive and simple charming look. Classic white with sage coral or white on white for example- maybe it is an eggshell finish on the house and high gloss on the door.

4. Look to your surroundings for inspiration if you are undecided. Do you have a lot of bold dark or bright greens or more sage, softer silver greens, or maybe rich burgundy leaf foliage in your landscaping for example? A lot of bold colorful flowers or simple white blooms or maybe just greenery and no blooming plants? Seeing what color goes well with the softscape in your yard might help point you a direction for the color that feels more cohesive.
