Have I mentioned before that I have a bit of a vintage chair disorder? I do. It is almost like chairs talk to me. They whisper sweet nothings in my ear and more times than not- they win and come home with me. I try to resist some of them- and I rationalize with myself if it is a chair I need. Haha. Okay ‘need’ is a strong word… but sometimes, I definitely feel like I need the chair. And so, those beautiful vintage chairs come home with me again and again. Recently I have been sharing some bigger scores in our treasure hunt series but today, I thought I would share a simple small charming chair score. Even better- just $12 and full of charm. You have a chair weakness too? This post is for you.

Beautiful Vintage Chairs
I am not talking about all the upholstered chairs or flower covered chairs. Though I do have a few of those. Today we are talking about vintage wood chairs- like those sweet old dining chairs that manage to always mingle perfectly together even when they are not of the same finish, size or even style. Those farmhouse or cottage or French style chairs that are all about the carvings, turned posts and little details that make your knees weak. You know the kind, right? Well, I happened to have bumped into a few recently. And even better- they were on sale. So yes, you know that they came home with me.

Carved Vintage Chair
This chair is a recent find- it hopped into my cart at the Re-Store last week. My husband saw it and said ‘What is that?’ in a joking way and I just smiled and said ‘It is a great chair that I need to bring home with me. And I need that one up there on the top shelf too.’ Oh I love to make that man of mine crazy. And you know what? I am darn good at it. haha.

The Details
The details are delicious. The lovely what I think is tiger oak construction. The carvings that are delicate and sweet and all those turned spindles. I first spotted this chair from behind and was walking past to look at another chair. On the way back, I turned it around and took a closer look and instantly fell in love with it.

Of course, first thought in my mind was a plop of pretty blooms for a photo. I am a little obsessed with vintage chairs with blooming blooms moments as you know.

This chair was in pretty perfect condition. The other on that top shelf that we had to get down had a few issues and was not as pristine and not as old or hand carved like the first but it had a sweet look. The old gray weathered wood and a lot of sweetness. They were both marked $15 and one was 25% and the other 50% off so they both hopped in the car to come home with me.

Around the Table
Other than as props for pretty little flower moment photos- my favorite way to enjoy these old chairs is in a mish -mash of various chairs around a table.

A Couple Tips
Buy One, A Pair or a Set
Something I used to argue with myself about all the time was feeling like I needed to find a set or a pair of chairs- but I tossed that thought a long time ago and actually bring home as many singles as I do pairs or sets nowadays. I always seem to be able to find a place at the table for another.
The magic is in the mingle- not the match.
Don’t worry about the chairs needing to match or be the same size, finish or era. The magic is in the mingle so mingle away.
Give them the sturdy shake.
Grab the seat and shake the chair a bit to see if it wiggles too much or is pretty secure. It is okay to bring one home that need some tightening up but some of those vintage chairs are better used for things like flowers or a pretty moment if they are not sturdy. You definitely don’t want guests to plop on them if they are not seaworthy so to speak.

What do you think of these two vintage chairs? Would you have brought them home?
Happy Monday everyone.
Just love your style….just like me!!

I love chairs too and like to mix styles. I wish I had a bigger house to accommodate them. You must have some wonderful second hand shops in California. Those are great prices!
I had antique tiger oak chairs and claw foot table 30yrs ago and sold ALL 13yrs ago. I loved them at the time of purchase but changed my decor. I think you do good at buying because of price you pay. I’m obsessed with a lot of stuff when it comes to decorating house and garden. I keep saying I’m going to stop buying but my eyes are attractive to beauty…lol
You have so many wonderful shops to go to. I love that chair.
JStolička jee nádhernÁ. DobrÝ nÁkup.
Stolička je nádherná, dobrý nákup. The chair is beautiful, a good purchase.
They are lovely. I love the second one! But where do you put them all when not hosting a large party. My husband hates when I bring extra stuff home!
WINNER, WINNER!! I actually “felt your chill” finding that beautiful Specimen!! Right place, right time. You described your spouse relationship EXSCTLY as mine!! ❤️
