Welcome to the snowy weekend view.
Winter not so much wonderland
After the crazy winter storm last year that took down so many old growth trees- we are holding our breath right now with the snow that is covering pretty much everything at our home in California. I know I mentioned before that I am not a fan of snow or winter… this is the view outside right now… oy vey.
Winter Storm Olive dropped very low snow in big amounts all over California-including the Bay Area, beaches, wine country and even southern California. So thankful we have power though we are pretty concerned about several trees that are leaning and within proximity to land on structures including the house and barn. Praying that the snow drops off the trees today and that the next storms coming in are much more mild than they are forecasting at this point. This kind of snowy weather is not usual for us at all and I know it is not for so many folks affected by this storm. I hope you are all staying safe and warm wherever you are!
Garden
Would you believe that this photo was just a couple of days ago? Warm sunshine and a little breeze in the garden.
There are tulips and allium bulbs coming up in the beds and some hellebores that were blooming before the snow. This year the garden is getting a bit of an expansion and revamp. We are moving some of the fences to also enclose the rose garden area and taking out the picket fence that is there currently.
Cottage Updates
We are working on a few things in the cottage in the next few weeks- adding a wood stove for heating in the lower half and are looking at replacing the door and the floors in the upper half. They were floors we put in when we first renovated and frankly, were not the best quality and are ready to be replaced. I am thinking of something on the lighter yet vintage looking side. I will share more once we get going with that. First up? Move everything out. Which will probably require some help from our big boys.
Wandering
I haven’t done too much wandering this week but did pop over to visit a few of my favorites.
Love this beautiful spring bedroom refresh– and those flowers!
I mentioned before I am thinking about wallpaper- and this post has some beautiful simple patterns.
Giant double blueberry muffin cookies? I mean, yes. please.
Coming your Way
Spring decorating is on my mind and though it is wintry outside- I am thinking spring and all things fresh and green right now. Will be jumping into some simple and easy ideas for spring, talking about some of my favorite faux florals that you can enjoy all year long and also sharing the gorgeous antique mirror that we found on marketplace and brought home last week.
Stay warm and safe everyone!

Wow! What is your usda zone? Light snow is pretty, but not all the time. I lived 16 years in North Georgia, zone 7b. Had a fair amount of snow 5-6”. In North Florida now zone 8b.

The changes in our environment has created such a tilt on our weather. We typically have in our midwest zone 5b lots of snow and cold icy weather but this year (knock on wood:0)..has been very mild. CA/AZ areas have truly changed. I read the southern areas will get hotter though over the years according to a map they drew up.
Still a beautiful place you have and soon spring will have sprung. I look forward to seeing your garden changes..always so pretty no matter.
Stay warm.

Wow! That is so much snow! I was so excited for snow, I don’t want to live in the snow, but I just wanted a day to watch it fall and settle in the trees. It snowed all around me in Sonoma County, but not here! I live high In a valley, and I’m all nestled in between hills. If I drove out, I would see snow but I wanted it in my yard!
I understand the tree thing though, every rain storm, I worry. There’s gorgeous old oaks on each side of my home and all over the property. We’ve lost quite a few the past few years, the fires burned a bunch just up the hill. we have a tree sized branch to deal with right next to the driveway.
All that to say, I know it can be scary!
But oh so pretty!!!!

It has started feeling like Seattle weather in Southern California. We haven’t experienced the snow that the local mountains have, but it’s been so cold and rainy.
I hope the trees and the garden survive the weather you’re experiencing.
