Summer has been so Hot this year. So when it moved just a tad cooler into the 80’s and chilly in the morning last week- I started getting super excited for autumn. I have been thinking about autumn weather, colorful leaves, pumpkins and cozy candles. And I even pulled out my warm cozy snuggly to wear in the evenings.
But even with all things autumn and Christmas on my mind, I am also soaking up summer sunshine and warm summer nights yet. We usually have warm summer temperatures into October here- and so the transition from summer to autumn happens gradually over August and September. So while I do go pumpkin crazy- it isn’t usually until mid to late September. And today it is all about 14 ideas for adding a touch of autumn warmth- without going crazy (yet) and enjoying that summer feeling in your home at the same time. And as requested – I included links to ‘get the look’ under each one as well. 🙂
Summer to Autumn
Here are 14 ideas for simple ways to transition your home from summer to autumn quietly and simply.
1. Candles
Always a good idea for adding warmth to your home year round- candles definitely bring a cozy feeling for autumn and winter. A tip is to use various sizes for interest and also layering that beautiful flickering light. These are LED candles as well-so are safe to enjoy anywhere.

2. Acorns
Think natural when adding a touch of autumn. I noticed a ton of acorns on the ground yesterday in the greenhouse garden- they are perfect for gathering up to sprinkle on a table or place in a bowl on the sideboard.

3. Hydrangeas
For summer to autumn- think green or purple rather than blue or white. Those colors bring a bit of warmth to the house without feeling overwhelmingly ‘fall-ish.’

4. Bowls of Fruit
I mean- I kind of think bowls of fruit is always a beautiful idea year round- but for autumn- choose a rosy or rich toned fruit. Think peaches, apples, pomegranate, persimmons, plums etc. for a warm touch.

5. Dahlias
The perfect summer flowers – and also the perfect early autumn flowers. I have a bouquet of orange, white and rich magenta dahlias in the house currently- and these soft cafe au lait dahlias are favorites.

6. Branches
Step outside and see what type of colorful branches you might have in your yard. They are perfect mixed with grocery store roses for a pretty bouquet.

7. Blue Jars
I love a simple touch of autumn- and the minute those mini white pumpkins start appearing in the grocery store- they also start appearing in the house. Mix them with a few vintage jars full of flowers for a simple look.

8. Potted Cabbage
Simple and sweet-and another one inspired by nature and the garden.

9. Fill a Wood Crate
This is such an easy way to add a seasonal touch anywhere. Of course, the pumpkins are more autumn than summer- but you can use things like fruit, pinecones, flowers etc. and change with the seasons.

10. Gold Candles & Wood Dough Bowl
Fill a wood dough bowl with pomegranates and add a few glittery gold candles for a touch of autumn warmth.

12. Warm Welcome with a beach cruiser & crate
This is a simple way to create a bit of joy for guests as they arrive- place a beach bike out by the door to welcome guests- and change what is in the crate with the seasons. For summer- use flowers like hydrangeas or greenery like ivy- and switch to pumpkins for fall and a Christmas tree for the holidays. Plus you can take the crate off and hop on to ride and enjoy whenever you would like too.

13. Velvet Pillows
Mixing in a couple gold or pumpkin colored velvet pillows is perfect for that burst of summer sunshine- and warmth of autumn.
