Can you feel a chill in the air? Usually August is a hot, hot, hot month here. And it has been just that until the weekend. A chilly front moved on in and brought crisp air and even some rain and thunderstorms. And that chilly air has me thinking all about decorating for autumn & I usually start with dressing the door for autumn to welcome guests. Sharing a few favorite looks for autumn door decor today.
Autumn Door Decor
When decorating for autumn early- I like to start with something that feels a bit more like a summery autumn mingle. Like a wreath with a burst of cheery foliage that isn’t just those bold autumn colors. And what better way to add autumn door decor than with a lovely wreath, basket of foliage or dried flowers.
A Beautiful Wreath
This wreath has a lot of natural and neutral colors that say autumn but in a softer way. Choose something that has a softer color palette for a touch of autumn rather than bold burst of colors.
Tip: Softer sides of autumn are perfect for early decorating and then can give way to the bold and beautiful tones later.
Basket of Foliage
I am a little obsessed with baskets full of foliage (and blooms!) anytime of the year – and this look with citrus and olive branches says summer autumn mingle to me.
Tip: Used fresh clipped greens tucked into a basket and in the September sunshine they will also dry beautifully.
Pumpkins & Bushels of Mums
Tip: Bushels of flowers or greens are perfect for a simple early autumn look.
A favorite mingle- stacks of pumpkins with bushels of mums. A tip is to enjoy just the mums for an early autumn look and then bring in the pumpkins in late September for a more seasonal mingle.
Dried Foliage
Tip: Bring in the dried foliage and flowers.
I love using dried foliage for autumn. This wreath originally started out as a fresh green wreath and when it dried- it became autumn perfection with those golden brown hues.
Add corn stalks for a lovely more autumnal feeling without adding the bold colors as well.
Fresh Garland
Tip: Autumn foliage doesn’t have to be dried to be beautiful.
This garland is a fresh lemon leaf, olive and eucalyptus mix and is perfect for adding a welcoming touch to a doorway. The best part about this garland is that it will dry beautifully and so, it will easily last all season long.
Those are just a few favorite early autumn door decor – I am working on this years look and will be sharing more soon. You can see more softer side of autumn ideas HERE

I absolutely love the second wreath! My front door wreath has stayed the same for several years. I don’t switch things out like most people do. It needs an overhaul. I also love your cute chickens!!
