Sometimes simple Christmas touches are perfect.
A clipping of fresh greens across a window
pretty packages that add a pop of color
and lots of pretty whites that let the wonder of the season truly shine.
I am sharing a few snippets of the little cottage decorated for Christmas today
and yes, all in one post since we are down to just 3 days before Christmas.
Seriously. I feel like it was just Thanksgiving last week.
Seriously. I feel like it was just Thanksgiving last week.
I didn’t decorate the cottage with an abundance of Christmas decor this year
I kept it less cluttered and more simple with mostly greens and a few ornaments for decoration
which is really what I prefer.
which is really what I prefer.
A couple of years ago a magazine was coming to photograph our cottage for the holidays and the photographer stressed that I needed a lot of Christmas for the photos.
As in a lot of Christmas everywhere.
It wasn’t what I normally do but for the photos I added as much ‘Christmas’
to every spot as I could stand.
It was pretty and magazine worthy and yes, it definitely said Christmas.
but it wasn’t really completely me.
Simply,
I am a fresh greens, golds and glam and elegance type of Christmas girl.

I am a fresh greens, golds and glam and elegance type of Christmas girl.
But this year
I have been working on a few different things requiring a little stepping outside the box
and have been able to flex my design muscles a bit more
and try different looks for decorating.
From fun and whimsical, to traditional, to a little more bold.
But even so…
my favorite look is always simple elegance.
my favorite look is always simple elegance.
With unadorned fresh wreaths and garlands.
White dishes
and just a few ornaments decorating the shelves
A sweet little tree in a vintage basket
and maybe something that is a little over the top and simple at the same time
like this heavily flocked white tree
Decorated with nothing but a few pale ornaments
and twinkling lights
(The mantel and living area have a few different looks
part of a styling project I was working on)
I also shared a cottage bedroom look in Romantic Lifestyle Magazine
earlier this season
and a blue and white cottage bedroom just recently if you would like to see more
I will be sharing a couple re-cap posts and will have a few more glimpses
but I have a couple big projects going on that I am super excited about
but at the same time,
they are limiting some of my sharing this season.
Okay… I am off to bake 5 dozen cookies
and then pick up my middle guy who is on his way home today.
This is the first Christmas with two of my kids moved out on their own
and it has been a little difficult for me for sure.
But I am so excited that both of my big boys are coming home for the Holidays
this week and our house will be full and busy again.
🙂
Happy Monday and almost Christmas everyone!

Luv it Courtney. Sometimes less conveys a sweeter message I say. It's just beautiful. 1.5 years ago, my big boy got married and moved out… this is the 2nd Christmas and we still do a meal and gifts together. I look forward to it. So I can relate!
Happy Christmas to you and yours…
Hugs, Gee

Courtney, I adore your style! Simplicity with greens is a beautiful look. I try to do much the same here. I always struggle with my mantel, and this year I kept it very simple. No greens at all. I like it better than any other mantel decor I've done at this home. Love the look of the unadorned tree in the basket. I may do that next year out on the terrace. It will look as if I'm growing my own trees. 😉
Just to let you know. I found the white reindeer and my current post features my table using the white ones. Another shout out to you for sharing the idea.
Enjoy the time with your family. How nice to have your boys home for the holidays.
