Sweet breads, berries and stacks of waffles on repeat.
When it comes to warm and cozy in the house breakfasts- a board covered in deliciousness to grab your favorites from is perfect. There is something about winter mornings by the fire sipping coffee that makes me crave those carb overloaded breakfast foods that I used to love. Stacks of buttermilk & sourdough pancakes drizzled in syrup. Flaky breads filled with fruits and almond filled and topped bear claw pastries that I couldn’t get enough of.
Those were the days before we noticed carbs. Or calories. haha. But the best thing about a breakfast board platter is that you can literally incorporate any and all of your favorite things to enjoy. If you are carb conscious- skip the waffles and pastries and go with different veggie omelets or other low carb options. Low sugar or gluten free? Grab your own versions of what you love and know you can enjoy without worry.

This colorful fruit topped board appeared in my latest book- Inspired Gatherings– and I shared a bit more about it in THIS POST. And today- it is all about a lemon inspired breakfast full of lemon bread, blueberries and berry topped waffle- and a few tips for creating a breakfast platter board that is perfect for you.
Breakfast Board
Start with a chunky bread board or cutting board that you can stack layers of yum on. I like to use a serving board that makes it easy to pick up and move after breakfast- but any type of board will work for this.

Layer the fruit
Fruit for nibbling, topping waffles and mixing into oatmeal- stack up your favorites. This one incorporated fresh grapes, blueberries and blackberries. I also sliced up a lemon for adding to tea or drizzling.

Pastries on Repeat
Stacks of flaky croissants, doughnuts, sweet breads and danish- you can stack up any kind of indulgent pastries you would like. I love a sweet bread- something with orange or lemon- but if there is a bear claw – I will be nibbling on that too.

Pancakes, Waffles & Toast
This one is in the same full of carbs and calories category- but there is something about a stack of pancakes or waffles that feels like a cozy breakfast treat.
One of my favorite things to do with waffles is to top them with fresh fruit and preserves. Add a bowl of berries and a jar full of preserves as well as maple syrup & honey for more options.

Fruit Juices
I am not a huge fruit juice person- I will be honest. So if we were sitting down to this breakfast- I would be grabbing the coffee and tea and leaving the juices behind. But a lot of folks love orange juice or another juice with breakfast. For something less sweet and – and better for you-serve up a fresh squeezed lemon water with a bit of fruit mash to sweeten it.

Oatmeal and More
If you are feeling less bread overload and more warm you up inside breakfast foods- think oatmeal, cereal or even a simple grapefruit.

One of the best things about putting together a simple breakfast board like this is that you can add as much as you want with variety of foods, and amount of foods for however many people you are serving. Just a table for two? You can still create and enjoy a stacks of deliciousness grab what you want breakfast and morning conversation.
I am wrapping up a busy week full of projects and helping to move my oldest son and his family from Las Vegas to Northern California. I am beyond excited that they will be so close and we can see them all the time. Stay tuned for some updates and a peek at their new home here soon.
And the shower is done in the bathroom in the cottage- which was a boatload of work! I will share what we did out there soon. But we aren’t done yet- new flooring and a different sink are happening in the next couple of weeks. 🙂
