Those glowing Christmas fireplaces in the movies always bring such a warm feeling and cozy inspiration. The crackling wood and glow that bounces off the floor and fills the room. Layers of garlands, ribbons and candles. The fireplace at Christmas inspires all kinds of cozy magic in the house with ambiance on repeat. It is Christmas fireplace perfection.. but what if you don’t have a real wood burning fireplace in your home? Spoiler- if you don’t, that doesn’t mean you can’t create something full of cozy Christmas magic too. Here’s how to do it.

Magic Filled Christmas Fireplace
Of course, if you are starting with a mantel or a faux mantel- you have a head start on the look. But you don’t even need a mantel to create a cozy magic filled Christmas ‘fireplace’. You can use a shelf or a sofa table for example. I am showing this look on a faux fireplace- it is just an old fireplace surround attached to the wall with a black paper insert in the firebox to create some depth.
Garlands or Greens Magic
The first step is to use garlands or fresh or faux greens to layer on the mantel. If your cozy moment is on a table- layer them on the table. A favorite trick if using faux garland is to tuck some fresh into it. Not only does it help to fill in the garland and make it look more wild and wooly- it also adds scent which is also part of that Christmas magic.

Bring on the candles for magic – faux or real
Layers of cozy glowing candles brings a whole lot of magic to a fireplace. I used several sizes of chunky candles on the top of the mantel, tapers in the sconces and a couple on the large candlesticks as well. It is really all about the layers with candles- whether they are real or faux. By using several sizes and using them in several areas, you create a warm glow in several places which = candle magic.

Remember to always be safe when using real candles and never leave them unattended. Between you and me- I prefer faux for decorations like this. The faux candles come on and turn off on timers and I never have to worry about them glowing away when I am not in the room. So while I love real candles on the table for a dinner party, I am a big believer in faux candles in decor.
Velvet Ribbons Galore
Velvet ribbons are so simple but also one of the most underrated touches for Christmas in my opinion. Okay, not underrated here- I used them in abundance. But most often the type of ribbon you see are those big chunky wired ribbons. I am talking velvet or satin ribbons. Old school style simply tied to a tree branch or tucked into the garland. I also added a bow to the sconces for a little ‘extra’ because, I definitely can be a little extra sometimes.

Fireplace Village Magic
The firebox is usually a big dark spot in the overall of a fireplace or faux fireplace decor so why not fill it with something magical like a strand of lights or a fireplace village? Of course, you know how much I love this fireplace village. It is always glowing away over here and I absolutely adore how much cozy it brings to our bedroom.

If you are using a table for your magic filled moment- tuck the village underneath by the legs for a similar effect and enjoy that beautiful glow anywhere you place it.
