Cozy Christmas Ambiance
It’s the most wonderful time of year again when we all start to slow down, enjoy a little more ambient lighting, and get cozy in the warmth of a festive, decorated home.
Cozy Christmas Ambiance
Christmas is my favorite time of the year (if you couldn’t tell), and one of the biggest things that makes Christmas my favorite is how cozy it is. There’s nothing like having a home full of beautiful twinkling trees, warm candlelight, and inspiring decor that brings back the nostalgia of childhood Christmas to make you and your family feel right at home.
And because Christmas is so special to me, this year, I wanted to share a fun segment on the blog where I break down some of my favorite trees I’ve set up and share a few styling tips for those looking to incorporate this look into their own holiday decor.
Glowing Cozy Ambiance Christmas Tree
The first tree I want to share is this glowing, cozy ambiance tree. This is one of the trees from my new book French Country Cottage Christmas and it is one of my favorites. Here’s a closer look at how I set up this tree so you can create your own version of it in your own home.
1. Create a cohesive look around the room
The first thing I do when I want to create a cozy mood is to create a cohesive look. Nothing makes a room feel pulled together like echoing a certain theme around the room. For this tree, I did this by incorporating a golden ribbon on the tree, on the mantel, as well as on some of the presents.
TIP: Creating a cohesive look helps to pull the room together and helps your design flow more effortlessly so nothing feels out of place. When everything compliments one another, you have a beautiful balance in your home that just makes the room feel more put together, more inviting, and more ambient.
2. Layering the tree
Layering can help elevate your tree decor, add depth, and can be a great way to incorporate a variety of pieces into your decor without making it feel chaotic. For this tree, I layered a golden satin ribbon with a velvet ribbon, incorporated a variety of vintage ornaments, a pearl garland, and battery-operated candles for a European feel. Of course, you can you whatever ornaments or pieces you want to your tree, and can still achieve a beautiful, whimsical look that is all your own.
When layering, I like to create a draping look with all of the pieces I use. The garland, for example, can be draped across the branches in a bit of a messier way to create a more effortless, flowy look, while the ribbons can be draped on the ends of the branches to help the tree appear fuller, while also adding a warm elegance to the tree.
Another tip for this is to remember to layer under the tree by stacking presents, putting some in the front and the back, and incorporating a variety of colors that you used elsewhere in the room on the presents to pull it all together. Layering under the tree is just as important as layering on the tree, so be sure you don’t skip this step if you want the look to feel complete.
3. Add a fireplace village
Lastly, nothing says cozy ambiance quite like a fireplace––or in this case, a fireplace village. If you don’t have a working fireplace, a great way to add a little extra warmth to your room is with the fireplace village. This is from my collection with Balsam Hill and of course, is one of my favorite pieces because of the magic it creates. Adding this to your firebox is a great way to add additional depth and warmth to the room, and truly set the cherry on top of your look.
If this fireplace village isn’t your style, you can also use battery-operated flickering candles in your firebox to create a cozy look. Overall, adding detail to your firebox is a great way to add a little extra magic and ambiance to a room.
Get the Look
There’s no right or wrong way to decorate a tree, and you can use as many different pieces as you like to create the look of your dreams. The most important thing to remember is to have fun with it. When you have fun and decorate it in a way that inspires you, that’s when the true magic of Christmas is born.
Stay tuned for more detailed looks into some of my other favorite trees coming your way each week as we get closer to Christmas.
