Sometimes, the thrift store is filled with nothing that catches your eye- and other times, with all kinds of things that talk to you. This particular trip, I spotted these vintage goblets while we were getting into line to check out. And so, I grabbed them quickly and took a closer look after getting them home.
Vintage Silver patina is always something that I fall for. Truth be told- I do enjoy a good tarnished patina- I like the lovely old look it has and it brings a beautiful storytelling kind of look. But, when I decide to give in and polish it up sometimes- oh.my. the beautiful shine of polished silver is beyond! And sometimes you can find something extra hiding underneath all that tarnish- like a lovely little monogram.
There are a lot of different ways to polish tarnished silver, from tinfoil and hot water to ketchup and salt to traditional polishes. I have used several before- today I am sharing one that always does a beautiful job. Let’s jump in and take a look at the Before & After.

Vintage Silver Goblets BEFORE
Covered in pretty tarnished patina- they were a dark, moody and somewhat colorful look on the shelf at the thrift store. I have seen tarnished silver bits at the thrifts so many times and know that they can be beautiful.
Though admittedly, when you can’t see what is under that tarnish right away, you don’t know if there is damage and they won’t shine up. I decided that for $3- these 6 goblets were well worth it and from what I could tell, they would polish up beautifully.

Silver Polish
While I have used the ketchup method, I grabbed one that I learned about a long time ago for these. I have found that sometimes, ketchup works wonders and others, not so much. Maybe the brand? I have no idea. But I grabbed Wrights Silver Cream Polish for this job.

It has a sponge inside to dip into the cream and polish the silver pieces with. I put on gloves because, I tend to make a mess haha and I don’t like chemicals etc. on my skin though this is supposed to be safe. You simply polish, polish, polish and watch the magic happen as the shine starts to appear.

And look at the little monogram polishing up so pretty. After you are done polishing, rinse with water and dry- and then sit back and admire the beauty your work has uncovered.

Seriously so lovely!

I am quite obsessed with this set of goblets all polished up- and anything with a monogram? I fall for it big time. These are actually in amazing condition too- just a little spot of wear on one of them and with a makers mark indicating they are from Italy.
So all around- these beauties are a win-win. While I do love tarnished patina on some things… I will always get a little weak in the knees for something silver all polished up and pretty too.
What do you think of how they turned out? Do you like tarnished patina as well as polished?
