A *Little* CHALKBOARD LOVE

It’s no secret that I love chalkboards in the dining room
or the kitchen…


Old shabby frames with gilding and chipping paint 
turned into a chalkboard
and set on the sideboard with
a menu or party message
*love*



This was last years Christmas chalkboard and here it is on a
bench with a favorite quote
Yep.
I love me some chalkboard.
Soo…
I was thinking about a bigger one.
One that was large and in charge.
Though I have looked and looked
I didn’t find a frame that was the right size to make the
size chalkboard I was thinking of.

I wanted something as a backdrop for my dining table.
To write the wine list on for wine tasting parties…
or a verse from a favorite song
or maybe a message or quote.
This chalkboard was my inspiration…

So…
since I didn’t find a vintage frame the right size~
I decided to make my own.

I have grooved knotty pine walls in my old 1940 house
I love them but they do not make for a smooth surface for marking off
and painting a chalkboard on.
But using a 4×8 sheet of 1/4″ smooth plywood, some thick trim
and a little chalkboard paint…

Voila!

This huge chalkboard creates such a beautiful backdrop for the dining table
Loving the versatility of writing on it~
Twas the night before Christmas was a fun verse to write-
though it took nearly a whole piece of chalk to finish it.

I love it simple and plain with not much writing on it too
and I can’t wait to do the wine list.
My ruffled burlap tablecloth brings a bit of the rustic
I am loving it paired with my frenchy dining chairs
( the numbers are from my Lowes Harvest table post)

I love the mix of rustic and elegant.

I am starting to add a little Christmas to the dining area
with a few pine boughs and berry garland
and wee cypress tree seedlings on the table.
I’ll share it’s holiday look when it’s decked out in full

    Oh Courtney, that chalkboard is amazing! I have a bit of an obsession with chalkboards too…. I recently spent an hour in the paint shop getting them to make me up a custom grey chalk paint! I don't think you can beat classic black though, especially for a grand size, like you have done in your dining area. I think the backdrop that makes for the dinng table is just so classic. You have styled the table so beautifully too, those ruffles on the tablecloth have stolen my heart!!!! Now I am on holidays I hope to join with your linky party! X
