This latest love it or leave it find- well, I am not sure exactly what it is. Is it a vintage vanity? An old sideboard? A quick -change table? A desk? I am calling it a whatchamacallit because, I don’t know. But what I am sure of- it is a charmer! And at the price it was? Even better.
Sweet Vintage Whatchamacallit table
We are calling it a vintage vanity desk because that is the easiest way to describe it and it saves on typing out whatchamacallit over and over. When I first spotted it- I was walking into the Re-Store and it was out in the front section. I noticed how cute the legs were and thought it looked like a charmer-but I wasn’t looking for furniture and so I kept on walking.

But you know… sometimes those things that talk to you keep talking. And the next time I was there, there it was again. It was moved to a different spot a little further out into the front – and it was smiling at me. I kid you not. So you know I had to wander over to take a closer look while my husband was loading up some old windows.
Charming Details
Of course, those fluted legs were already talking to me so I loved those. One long drawer pulled open to reveal a bit of a surprise. A velvet lined ‘silver’ flatware drawer. I was instantly intrigued and now knew I could justify the purchase because it was ready to hold all the flatware I have.

I noticed the top was not attached and that it was folded over. I opened it up and it seems to be able to made into a small table.

Perfection! I knew right away this could go into our sunroom entry area where I don’t have a ton of space for a full size table but could tuck a little charmer like this one and open up for a table when I want to style one.

Obviously there is some damage, the finish isn’t perfect and it actually a bit more damaged than I would usually consider. There is some warbled /damaged veneer and the top needs some work to be reattached to the base.

Even so, it was so cute. It is a delightful dainty size and I love the sweetness it has. I am not sure how old it is. The drawer insert can come out and has the name of an old jewelry company in Ohio. So maybe it is for storing jewelry instead? Maybe it was made specifically for this piece of furniture?

The opening table top seems like an odd kind of addition to a vanity or desk – so I lean towards a small kitchen type table. It does fit it and the underneath of the top has a little notch that fits right into a notch on the table- so they do go together. Do you have any ideas? Have you seen anything like this one before? Would love to know more about it.

Price
So how about that price… I mentioned that I was ready to bring it home when I saw the potential it had for silverware storage. It was marked $189. So kind of expensive for the work it needed since it had damage. But here is the thing…it was marked at $189 but with a slash through the price tag. Which at the Re-Store means FREE. I verified with them that it was free of course and then loaded it up.

Because for free- it was for sure coming home with me. What do you think of this piece?
I just grabbed a few quick iPhone photos when we brought it home to share here today but stay tuned for a proper styling. For more love it or leave it treasures- you might enjoy this post HERE
perhaps it is a game table of some sort? lovely
Yes-that could be!
Love it! When it’s closed , it looks like bird’s eye maple on thetop! Any brand in the drawer or underneath that would help you ID it?
It appears to be a small side dining table with an extra feature of silver storage. That would have gone home with me if I had seen it, too! Great find!
The silver storage is such a neat feature! And I love that it opens up into a small table- it definitely could be a small ‘extra’ seating kind of table in the dining room.
Cute table! Free is the best. How do you plan on cleaning the velvet lined drawer?
The whole insert piece is removable along with the top cover that buttons closed to keep everything covered so I think I could clean it fairly easily but not sure how to properly do that yet.
STEEE-RIGHT! Good catch!!! franki
Wos! Courtney! The bargains don’t come any better than this! It will be beautiful once you re[air it. Anxious to see what you do with it.
I wonder if it IS like a storage table but turns into a serving table when you have a party. Maybe the help would use it to serve your gatherings or it helped out a homeowner with smaller houses save space and you open it to serve too. Pardon the caps but my phone has gone wonky I guess.
This is an antique buffet table meant for STORING silverware
Great find! I love things that have multi purpose! When you said the inside drawer tray has the name of an old jewelry company in ohio I thought that is what it must be for – jewelry storage. But the silverware storage makes more sense for the style of the table. Whatever you use it for it is an awesome added bonus. If you do find out for sure what it was meant to be used as please let us know….I’m curious too! Also I would like to know if you find anything regarding cleaning the drawer insert. Whatever you find it is a great piece especially for free!
LOve this little table. You find the best treasures❤️
so charming. my guess is a side table for a dining room. it would open up for a buffet type meal that would also house extra cutlery. for sure l would snap that up. good find!
I am going with game table. I think the insert is a later edition custom made for the piece and the user. Cute! Can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Love it and like you saide the price was roght:) it is too cute!!!
it’s a Jewellry Desk to use in the house of business. nice fine!
Love it, it is such a great size for so many uses, especially in a dining room.
I would DEFINITELY have taken it home with a free price tag and think the top would look great painted and distressed. Such a keeper!
