Simple natural autumn
such as pumpkins
acorns
and bowls of fresh fruit
Simple, natural autumn is my favorite.
And out in the little cottage- just a sprinkling of simple autumn has
started to appear.
The little cottage is a small guest cottage on our property
It is simple in design and style with a touch of vintage charm
and leans a bit more rustic and than the house.
So I tend to play up that rustic charm
and decorate it a little more for a farmhouse cottage look.
Today I am joining an amazing group of bloggers sharing the autumn that has
started to appear around their homes-
and I am giving you a quick tour of the cottage-
starting in the little kitchen.
Though, truth be told, these photos were taken awhile back
when there were just a few pumpkins to be found.
So you know things will be changing again.
😉
With a vintage cupboard (that we found in the basement of the house)
and open shelves in the base cupboards
the cottage kitchen is simple in design and style-
but big on vintage charm.
Next to the kitchen is the small dining area
and another old cupboard filled with white dishes.
And a little bit more of that copper.
I will share a closer look at the table centerpiece in another post
but it is all about magnolia, pumpkins and bleached pinecones.
In the living room area,
an old orchard ladder is a favorite place to dry
a few flowers.
and the fireplace got a grapevine pear and pumpkin look for early autumn
since I have yet to find those elusive pumpkins in the market yet.
For this look- I had a little fun with more bold tones and patterns like
a pendleton wool throw in warm rust tones
On the stairs, a little bit of extra sprigs of wheat wrapped in a gold ribbon.
and a few pumpkins and pinecone garland on the steps
In the bathroom-
just a little bit of pretty.
This bathroom has an antique sideboard that was made into a sink
and it is covered in old details.
And of course I had to play with a table setting on the patio…
the cottage patio is in the works getting a fresh look as we speak so no playing out
there in the mess just yet
but the pea gravel patio will do.
A simple table with a pop of blue
I will be sharing a closer look at these areas and much more soon
when autumn makes another appearance in the house this season
(aka- when the pumpkins come into the stores.)
😉
For now,

Every picture is so pretty. I love your attention to detail.
Did you buy bleached pinecones or did you do them yourself? It's an interesting idea.

Thank you!! The pinecones are already bleached- I got them from Balsam Hill- you can find them here: http://www.balsamhill.com/winter-pinecone-picks-p/4001700.htm

I just adore how you hung a wheat sheave on the banister!

Thank you Julie! I didn't have enough to stand it up where I wanted by the basket on the steps. 🙁 but it worked with the pinecones and ribbon garland holding it up. I guess it is time for another trip to HomeGoods to see if they have any more. (oh darn!) haha! xo

I really like your Guest Cottage. All the wonderful touches that make it special. Especially the pods hanging on the side of the vintage cupboard and the greens under the pumpkins. Can you tell me the name of these two greens? Thank You Courtney
Courtney says
HI Nancy!
Thank you for your compliments! The pods hanging on the cupboard are pomegranate- and the greens under the pumpkins are magnolia. I hope that helps!

Your styling in the cottage is just so restful and calming – love it; One questions, is the pomegranate garland on the side of the cupboard real or is it faux? If so, where did you get that. So unusual. Thanks so much
Courtney says
That is real- I picked it up at the flower market. 🙂
