It’s the fourth week of our meditation course for August, with only one more week to go! Last week, we learned how to let go of negativity and cleanse it out of our minds and body. This week, my daughter is back to share adding one additional minute to our meditation, for four minutes total, and directing our focus toward grounding and rebalancing.

Grounding & Rebalancing
Practicing grounding is important for creating a happy life. When we are grounded, we feel more at peace and more present in the moment. We are not stressed about the future or regretting the past, and we find it easier to recognize the blessings around us. Not to mention, our creativity and focus flow much easier, helping us feel more balanced and productive each day.
When we are ungrounded, we often feel scattered, stressed, anxious, angry, and weighed down. Our focus and creativity often become blocked, and we often let negative thoughts consume us. So, in today’s meditation practice, we are going to stop letting those negative thoughts push us around and start taking back control of our lives so we can live more peacefully.
The Meditation
Take the first three minutes to review the previous meditations we’ve learned these last few weeks, taking as much time as you need. At the fourth minute, we are then going to work on grounding ourselves in the present moment. For this, I like to practice a quick visualization where I envision myself connecting to the earth in my mind. This is often done by imagining that our feet are connected to the ground by roots, like a tree. Take a breath, and visualize this now.
Picture these roots stretching deep into the ground, helping you feel completely grounded. But these roots are here for more than just balance. When you visualize them, visualize them as an extension of your body and thoughts going deep into the ground. Here, stress, anxiety, worry, and all other thoughts can be cleansed, and we can bury them in the ground beneath us. Take a breath, and in your mind, say, “I let go of these thoughts and allow myself to ground with the earth.” As you breathe out, picture your negative thoughts and worries going down through your roots and into the ground, being cleansed away by the energies of nature. Once these thoughts are down there, they can no longer affect you.
With the negativity gone, we can now make way for positivity in our thoughts. This time, we can pull positive thoughts from our roots, such as words of love, encouragement, and affirmation. Breathe in, and in your mind, say, “I am present. I am safe. I am grounded. I am calm. I can come back here anytime I need.” Repeat this as many times as you need to, breathing in and out and welcoming positive, warm thoughts into your body. Here, you are balanced and approach your life with patience, love, and clarity. Here, your thoughts and fears are no longer in control. Here, you are in control. Here you are free.
Once you are ready, breathe slowly and open your eyes. Sit peacefully for a moment and recognize the strength that now resides in you. Those roots and feelings of stability that held you firm to the ground are still within you and always will be. If you ever feel overwhelmed, close your eyes, take a breath, and allow them to remind you of the strength and balance that you always carry within.

To sum it up
Oftentimes, becoming ungrounded comes as a result of living in a constant state of movement. When our mind is busy, we have a hard time being present. And sometimes, just offering ourselves a little extra strength and support within is all we need to make a shift.
This week, I encourage you to practice this meditation for four minutes a day. If you keep practicing, you’re bound to see why taking time to slow down, connect yourself to the earth, and breathe intentionally is one of the most therapeutic things you could ever do and how it directly affects your focus, your level of happiness, and your life.
