Summer is all about light, bright and airy- with a burst of warm sunshine and pretty and when it comes to bedroom decor- summer bedroom style is all about that too.
Refreshing the bedrooms for summer is simple and such a fun thing to do. From fresh linens to fresh flowers – and today for Friday Favorites- I am sharing a few of my tried and true styling tips to create a summer bedroom that your guests (or yourself) will love- along with some ideas for getting the look in your own home. Stay tuned for a few changes I have recently made in the bedroom. Waiting on one thing to arrive and then I will share how simple changes can make a room feel completely different.
Summer Bedroom Style
Simple & Sweet
I am big fan of simple and sweet in Any room. I like those sweet prints that don’t feel TOO sweet. A blush that isn’t TOO pink. Or a detail that is not TOO over the top. But I want all of those things in a room at the same time. The key for me is Balance.
Texture
This is a big one for me. I am a BIG Texture loving girl. The finish and feel of a fabric, the way the light lands on it, the way that texture plays with the simple and sweet. I love beautiful linen- that nubby texture that is also so soft is pretty much perfection. On the bed right now- I have a layer of pretty, simple & sweet AND texture with this faded floral duvet cover- one of my favorites.
A layer of Luxurious
Okay- moving beyond the simple and sweet and texture- the favorite finishing touch is a layer of luxurious to wrap up in. I found this rich velvet dark blue quilt during winter- and yes- the blue is a bit bold for my usual. But in the sun- it leans softer more slate gray – and even a lighter color depending. And I absolutely love the way the floral print plays with it. Even though velvet might be a bit ‘heavy’ in feel and appearance for winter- I have left this quilt at the foot of the bed to add that touch even if we are not layering on the bed and using.
Summer Nightstand Details
You might have noticed that my nightstands are not nightstands. They are chests of drawers, sideboards, etc. Instead of a grab the whole room matchy matchy look- I like to collect, mix and mingle. In our bedroom- I have an antique French commode that I have used for years as my nightstand. The gilding is worn in places and the faux marble top is beyond chippy but I love it just as it is. So what do I place on it? A lamp, flowers, candle and an old antique mirror.
And when I am not taking photos- you will find my phone charger, my laptop, a notebook & pen with notes and work planning and water as well. But that isn’t exactly pretty for sharing. So, when styling it for how I would love for it to look everyday- or for guest rooms- I go for summer romance with flowers.
Currently we have peonies and garden roses blooming in the garden- along with a few other pretty herbs and bits. Simply wandering and clipping what you can find out in your yard is a simple way to create a beautiful arrangement – it can be a single flower or something more bold. You can also check your local grocery store for what is in stock. I will share the breakdown of this arrangement & how to create it in another post.
Summer Guest Bedroom
- 1. Fresh Flowers – because they instantly make the room feel indulgent and beautiful. These are camellia’s & hellebores clipped for this photo shoot in one of the guest bedrooms.
- 2. A basket with towels, soaps, shampoo, toothpaste and toss away toothbrush, etc. for weary travelers who might have forgotten to pack something.
- 3. A plush robe is always a welcome touch for guests to enjoy – I place a couple of them in the guest bathroom to use if they would like.

Hi Courtney! So beautiful and HAs such a nice relaxing and non fussy feel, yet detailed. Can you share your muted floral duvet and sham source? Im in awh with your newly added English garden too. I have only two spots for peony’s and yet three choices locally right now and am torn between Duchess, Kansas and Shirley Temple. I REALLY liked how you chose your flower COLORS for your bedroom. I never considered Kansas as I thought it was too bold for our home. Liked your salvia tucked in too. 😉 What would you pick if only two? 💗

Hi Michelle!
Thank you! Ahh the peonies! I would go with Duchess and Kansas for a bold pink. I honestly wasn’t sure if the Kansas would be too bold as well- but when I googled it – there were so many beautiful photos of it showing it to be more of a deep pink that I went for it and it is stunning. If you want two blush pinks- I am in love with Duchess so might go with 2 there- or Duchess and Shirley Temple for a variation. The floral duvet is one from several years ago now so I am not sure if it available but it is from Rachel Ashwell.

That duvet in the sweet and simple scene, was given to me by my awesome daughter-in-law for my birthday last year. That blush pillowcase that you threw in there really pulled it all together.
It is amazing how much a mirror with an old patina creates the right feel in that room as a backdrop to the flowers. So many of us have had trials of late, and gazing on th ebeauty that you provide for us, is such a calming time to focus only on beauty. Thank you Courtenay!!

Courtney, you always show the perfect shoots of everything. I love the two bedrooms you posted. So, I am pretty much into a nubby ecru chenille in the Winter. I have an oversized blush/almost smokey quartz. I love it. I have small 3 shelf antique old dark antique shelf. The other size is an antique small 3 drawer dresser. Theyare dark bbut I can not bring myself to chalk paint them because they were ours growing up too. To much history.

Hi Courtney, everything in your photos is SO BEAUTIFULl! I always love your floral arrangements! My grandmother left me an old wooden table (in pretty sad shape) similar to the one you show in your Guest Bedroom next to the bed. Just wondering if you might show that table in a future photo? I was hoping to get some ideas for FIXING my grandmother’s table. Thank you for always sharing your beautiful décor!

Hi Courtney, I love this bedroom post! I miss coming over here and need to do so more often for a little “decor therapy.” <3 I was on the Shabby Chic website last week and Rachel Ashwell has brought back some fabrics she had back twenty or so years ago. Duvets and sheets can be ordered and I am still in love with one particular rose-strewn fabric for a future duvet… A good splurge since her brand is no longer carried at Target. sigh!
Enjoy your new nubby quilt ~ it is really pretty. <3
Big hugs,
Barb 🙂
