It is that glorious time of year when peonies are in stock and more readily available. And I am always ready to bring an armful or two home with me. Today we are taking a closer look at this dining room styling from my book In Bloom featuring a big old wood dough bowl full of coral peonies. Sharing more about these peonies and their secret- along with the details of creating something unique and beautiful like this arrangement below.

Coral Peonies
Beyond beautiful- those coral peonies are an absolute delight from the time they open bold and beautiful to when they drop their pastel petals. I am slightly obsessed with coral peonies and they are actually not like the usual peonies you would find. They have a bit of a secret that surprises and charms even the most ruffly peony lovers. While it is true, they don’t have those layers of ruffles and a big cup like appearance- they dazzle with their color, long lasting blooms and the way they fade into a whole other level of pretty.

These are more simple with smaller layers and petals and showy stamens. And they start out bold and richly color saturated and last weeks long fading just a bit each day to a beautiful pastel peach and into a buttery yellow color. You can see several different shades in the dough bowl arrangement showing their different color palette.

In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with these and they are obviously called Coral Charm for a reason. They are perfect for a pop of punchy color in your house.
Unique Vessels
I love to put flowers in a unique vessel and for this styling for my recent book French Country Cottage In Bloom, I placed them into a big old antique dough bowl. The key with using a vessel like this one is to use place several shallow jars or containers filled with flowers inside, use a long shallow container of water -or you can add a liner to prevent water damage and use florist foam.
The peonies will need to be cut a bit shorter than for a tall arrangement, and you will need a few depending on how large your vessel is. But look at how absolutely glorious it turned out on the table! Obsessed!
