How does that song go… oops I did it again? I might have. I wasn’t intending on it. I didn’t plan to do it but- when you bump into something so cottage charming that speaks to you loudly that you neeeeeeed it…. what is a girl to do? Or should I say, what have I done? haha.

Vintage French Floral Ticking Stripe Love
It started out as any other day – I was working on a photography project and playing with flowers out in the yard. I had my usual suspects- old chairs, a vintage cane settee, vintage wicker and an armful of garden roses and peonies from in the house. But sometimes, the photo does not come together. The chair wasn’t right. The settee was too ‘caney’ so the backdrop was busy. The wicker just didn’t talk to me. I needed a different piece for the photo.
French Floral Ticking Treasure
So, I asked my husband about making a quick run to the thrift store. Last time we stopped there was a vintage eastlake settee that I admired but didn’t need at the time but I knew it might be perfect for the photo. And I knew it was discount day for veterans/law enforcement and also, the discount had changed on the 1st as it does every month. So that $275 settee would be on sale. We hopped in the car and walked in past all the other shelves and treats -intending to make a quick stop to see if the settee was there and get home and back to work. Alas, it was nowhere to be seen. Someone had snatched it up already. I sighed as I continued on through the furniture area to see if maybe it was just moved somewhere new and that is when I stopped and gasped and said ‘Oh THAT is PERFECTION!!’

Sweet French Floral Ticking Charm
I walked quickly over to it and soaked up all the sweetness in that French floral ticking stripe. The brocade fabric with ticking stripes with dainty flowers and ribbons woven in. The delicate softest pale blue color. The dainty size and simple rolled arms. Carved cabriole legs and fringe because they are a little extra… like me. haha. Or maybe more like I have now officially lost my marbles -with all the patterns and floral fabrics in the house I may have gone completely crazy. But between you & me? I am Ok with it.

And here is the thing… I have this guideline about big pieces of furniture and patterns. I generally like to shy away from patterns on large pieces of furniture and just add them with pillows, accent chairs etc. But these… allover patterns, tassels and little patterned pillows – I couldn’t resist. What is a girl to do? Break the guideline?

Rules are meant to be broken so rules schmules right? When it is floral ticking and creamy pale blue and cream, I did it. I broke the ‘rule’. Plus, I figure I could always have slipcovers made if I decide I want a change. But you know, I have long had a love affair with French floral ticking stripes. I have it in bedding. I have it on that French daybed up in the attic. I have it on curtains. Chairs. probably more than I am even thinking about. I *might be obsessed with that look and the colors in these? Beyond lovely.
They had been at the thrift store for just a couple days but because of the new month price change were 25% off and an extra off for the honors day- so about the same price for the pair as the settee would have been and so we brought them home to see where they might land.

Love it or Leave it?
We have had them in our living room and have been enjoying them for awhile as you can see. With all the Christmas shares- those deals and steals have taken a back seat on posting. And every day they have been making me smile when I see them. A true sign of a good purchase.
I absolutely love the vintage floral ticking pattern on them and though they are smaller than our longer sofa’s – they will fit perfectly with a couple of fireside chairs. We don’t know that they will stay here or land in the back of the house where we are setting up an extra room as a sitting area. But I do love them here- even just walking in the door and seeing the pattern on the back is so sweet. I grabbed a few quick photos to share today while we were moving things around in here again- so stay tuned for the refreshed living room look coming your way soon.

So what would you have done- would you have brought these home or left them for someone else to enjoy?

I am so happy for you dear. I found my dream sofa also. I paid for it and told them I would pick it up the next day. The young lady was suppose to put a sold sign on it.She forgot to put the sign on it. The next day when I went back to pick it up, it was gone. I noticed a couple watching us to see if I bought it. So would I buy your dream couch and matching chair???
