Don’t you love Americana decor?

The Red, White & Blue.

Classic. Bold. Proud.

I love a little Americana decor here and there…
though it’s not my usual decor by far.
I saw this little charmer in Country Living magazine
and decided to take the copycat challenge at Debbiedoos.

French Heritage $1,450
Well,
the paint did not like me this weekend.
It peeled.
It bubbled.
It melted in the 94 degree temps.
When I pulled the tape off – the paint peeled up with it. ARGHH!
It FINALLY dried enough to sand and antique by the evening
but now it seems the antiquing stain doesn’t want to dry completely
So I have been wrestling with it to get it finished…
&
I missed the party.
🙁
Here’s how it started out:
Yeeeuuk
but the perfect candidate for a new paint job.
I primed. I taped. I painted.
Stripes of red and white and a vintage blue
I used a tiny brush to paint the primitive stars in
and added the knobs

The finish is looking much more uhm,..
shabby …
than I originally planned
and it’s so not perfect but… I am not hating
the very super distressed primitive look it has…
kinda liking it’s quirkiness
&
since I have pulled out enough of my hair for now…
I’m going with it.
🙂
It’s definitely better than the before!
🙂

Courtney, I think it's adorable! I like it much better than the "perfect" one. I like that it's homemade, I love that it's shabby, chic and I love your vignette on top! Great Job!! (PS. Thanks for following me on twitter!)
I like the prim and shabby look of it! What a fun piece. Hope you guys have a great 4th.
i agree–so much better your way! i love that you painted the american flag at a time the union jack is everywhere!
have a wonderful holiday, courtney.
michele
I love it Courtney! Have a happy 4th!!
Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Oh, Courtney, it looks wonderful! I also like that it is more rustic than the original. I love that your stars go beyond the drawer front like that. I understand the paint frustration part though when you put so much work into something. Happy 4th of July to you and all your American readers!
Very cute, Courtney! All that detailing takes a lot of work. Happy Fourth from our family to yours!
xo Cheryl
Even though you don't care for it Courtney, I think it's perfect.
I love the look of red, white and blue, the primitive and the shabby. You did a great job and your venue looks beautiful. I hope you will keep it. Happy 4th, Char
I like your version better. It looks less fussy than the original, I like the more rustic shabby chic look. I think you did great in spite off all the Murphy's Law catastrophes.
The chest is fabulous. I love it. I think you did a wonderful job. So pretty with the beautiful vignette. Great chest. Hugs, Marty
Love the chest, the original caught my eye in Country Living. Actually like yours better. What do you use for antiquing stain? I'm looking for something to use on a project I'm in the middle of.
Courtney, you did a wonderful job painting the chest! I love Americana *everything* Happy Independence Day!

I had the same thought.I wonder how many other people thought "I can do that",and put there own spin on it.Yours turned out beautiful! This is on my list of things I want to try. Happy 4th of July!!!
Hey, Courtney! Like you, I really appreciate Americana, love the look, but I don't decorate with it much. But this turned out great! Makes you want to incorporate it a bit more! Love your spin on it.
Courtney- I love your version. I think the "original" is just a bit too perfect for my taste…and guess what? If you get tired of it I think you would have a line of people standing in line to get at it! I love it-great job! xo Diana
Love the dresser,, you did a great job…. I like yours better.. too
Happy 4 July
Hugs;
Alaura
You have more patience than me. I just can't deal with stripes like that. Too tedious for me. I think you did a grand job.
I like it! I like that it's a bit more 'rustic' than the inspiration piece. Great job!
I absolutely LOVE it Courtney! I think it looks so charming and just perfect for the 4th of July or any day really! 🙂
Vanessa
Love the way your chest turned out!
Love it! Job well done!
it's adorable!
I love how the dresser turned out. Beautiful.
Happy 4th!

Happy 4th to you and your family too

WOW Courtney, this is wonderful! If you can get French Country out of an americana flag and chest you surely pulled it off! Your so talented!!!! xoxo Debra
Although it's not what you said you expected, I think it's perfect for an older piece of furniture. Besides, a lot of that Americana stuff in the stores looks really old. I'd enjoy it for it's prettiness now and not worry what you intended because it really looks good this way.
Oh haven't we all had a furniture piece (or two or three..) that just kept not quite working out. Yours however looks pretty darn good!
I love it. I think it is a piece you will enjoy for a long time.
The patriotic chest looks fantastic! But I wonder where in YOUR house this patriotic piece will go…and I cannot answer that question! So tell us where you are putting this handsome chest!
Hi Courtney, the chest looks great! Very appropriate for the 4th. Thank you for the mention, by the way – we were very happy to feature your blog 🙂
Absolutely am in love with your Americana dresser!!!!
I'm a little happy right now, becuase I tore out the picture of that same piece to keep for a future "inspiration". I can't believe it cost a whopping 1400+. Good job on your copy cat, I'm going to do one of these for myself someday..just watch!
