Sometimes there is a backdrop that inspires you to create something and capture all the magic and beauty it is providing. That is the case of our Cecile Brunner rose in the front of our home. In spring, it is covered in the loveliest of dainty pale pink blooms that fade to white. And every year, I want to set up all the tables, all the chairs and all the everything for all the photos to capture how stunning it is. This table was set up a couple of years ago for my new flower book. And can you believe we are just 5 days away from IN BLOOM being here? Today sharing this beautiful evening ambiance, those Cecile Brunner roses and how they all came together to create a styling for In Bloom.

Behind The Book- Evening Ambiance
Of course, every evening ambiance photo begins with setting up during the daylight hours. And I did that. And because I am crazy, I actually set up this table twice at the same time and captured it in different light. A morning view and an evening view. To be honest, the evening view was speaking my language the whole time I took photos. The cozy candle glow. The flowers. The sage green cloth and the place setting details- all with that delicious flower covered backdrop. Perfection!

Place Setting Details
These plates belonged to one of my grandmothers and were absolutely perfect for bringing out for this table. I love using pieces that have family heirloom meaning so much. While I appreciate every piece of china or flatware that I bring home and appreciate that to someone, that was their special heirloom piece. When it has been handed down by someone you love- it has such a special meaning.

One of my dads gave this set to me- and it was special to him because it belonged to his mom and likely his grandmother too. Which makes it special to me.

The flatware is collected – and between you and me- I just brought home another box full along with 10 knives I couldn’t leave behind at the thrifts. I *might* be a tad overloaded with silver flatware- but you know…I keep telling my husband that the event venue (that I don’t have yet) is looking pretty well stocked already haha.
Taking the Photos
I am working on something behind the scenes with regards to photos but I will share a bit about this setting and photographing it. As I mentioned, this was set up and photographed a couple of years ago but with most every shoot for my books, I remember it like it was yesterday. This evening ambiance table was set up in between rainy weather and it is in a spot in the yard where you have to wait for the light to be just right or it is glaringly too bright. Late afternoon, early evening or early morning is the best light in this spot. I set up the table and then put together the floral arrangement. I took some test photos to make sure everything was set in the proper spots to the cameras eye and then when the sun dropped just enough behind the trees, I lit the candles and got to work.

Did you know that I will take literally 100 photos of a setting – and only get a handful that I deem good enough to use for the book? Being a bit of a perfectionist- I am a tad hard on myself and when something doesn’t flow correctly in the photo- it is out. I have been known to double check photos and then go right back and shoot another round.
In Bloom Book Release Week
Next week folks! IN BLOOM will be here next week!! If you pre-order, I think you should get your book day before of day of release which is Tuesday, June 17th. We are going to be celebrating this book all week long with giveaways and fun stuff for You.

I’m going to be sharing more Behind the Scenes over the next 2 weeks – like this shoot which was so much fun and the bathroom shoot which was a bit over the top but we had the best time creating it. And I will share a bit of my heart because there is so much that goes into and goes on behind the scenes of creating a book. And I can’t help but get a bit emotional when the book is finally here.

decorating a table is my favorite thing to do. I love every one of your tablescapes. I get such inspiration from your beauty. I love the picture of you with a cowboy hat on the flowered couch. I hope some of your giveaways next week are on your blog. I do absolutely no social sites. I’m so excited to receive your book
How many rose bushes were planted to get such a large wall of roses? Any idea what variety of rose it is?
