When we bought this house we had to overlook a lot of not so amazing features.
Things like ceilings that were open to the attic, light bulbs hanging from wires
and that fabulous 1980’s faux wood ceiling fan in the kitchen…
with a beer bottle at the end of the pull string.
I believe it was a Budweiser.
Not a beer drinker- so not sure if that at least makes it better… and that was just the beginning.
But there was one area that we didn’t have to overlook at all.
The property.
This run down, forgotten cottage was set on the most magical of acreage.
A rolling meadow lined with a ‘fence’ of trees that divided the property.
And just beyond that line of trees,
a small fruit orchard filled with a dozen or so old growth apple trees.
There was something about it that spoke to me the first time I pulled into that overgrown driveway
and that magical feeling of the property made me feel like it was home.
Over the years, as we tackled renovations
patched things that needed to be fixed but weren’t on the short list
and dreamed up bigger ideas for that forgotten cottage-
we also carved patio areas
and garden spots and thought of ways we could soak up
and sprinkle that magic and ambiance over our entertaining areas.
And so… the pea gravel patio in the backyard was born.
And the reclaimed farmhouse table we built found a home on it.
And that small apple orchard in the back?
It was dotted with twinkly lights and a copper fire pit area
and yes, even a Christmas tree
that you can see twinkling away in the background.
And those outdoor entertaining areas,
they definitely get a lot of use for pretty table settings
and evening get togethers.
And today’s On the Table post~
it is all about that romantic day that is coming up next week.
It involves blush and pink and a touch of almost red
and even a little bit of blue and white.
Blue and white mingling with gold and color infused Valentine colors?
They are pretty much a perfect match.
I know you know me well… so I don’t have to tell you how much I am obsessed
with those gorgeous garden roses but…
I am equally as obsessed with these
gorgeous dishes with those roses.
Serious. Love.
The hand painted details on these is simply stunning in person and
no two are the same since they are individually painted.
Which makes each one unique.
They go perfectly with etched blue wine glasses
and a simple naked cake topped with just a few blooms.
All together, they create a romantic inspired table setting that is perfect for fun couples night with friends
or enjoying with your family.
The Details
The centerpiece on this table is super simple.
It is just 3 arrangements of garden roses with eucalyptus
2 vintage glass bottles, and one large glass jar.
For a romantic touch- sprinkle some of those naturally falling rose petals
around the table.
And if you have drippy candles- all the better for adding ambiance.
Of course,
I know it is February and outdoor entertaining is not happening in some areas
of the country… unless there is a polar bear entertaining club that you are a part of?
😉
But this table setting idea will absolutely work indoors as well.
And you can always swap those roses for any beautiful florals you have on hand at your local market
and skip the roses.

Your property is magical. I feel the magic each time you share photos. We live in the center of our big city, but fortunately we back to a greenbelt and creek. It gives us the privacy and feeling of living on more land than we have. I don't know that I could go back to living on a typical lot with neighbors behind us. I'm spoiled to living with the privacy and green space of a wooded area. Now I need to install twinkle lights!
