I am obsessed I tell you. OBSESSED with this find- a vintage swan planter. You might know them as garden statuary-but they definitely go beyond just sitting in the garden with plants and can be enjoyed in decor.

Vintage Swan Planter
Remember how I told you I have been currently obsessing over all things vintage garden statuary? This goes right along with it. I have been on the look out for a vintage swan planter for awhile now. I actually bumped into one at my friend Sandy’s shop when we were having coffee. And I was oh so tempted.
One of her vendors had a booth with a small one in it. Unfortunately, it was a tad smaller than I was looking for. Though, I will admit. I stared at it and I thought about it and I almost bought it. I ended up leaving it behind and asked Sandy to keep an eye out for a big one for me on her shopping adventures.

Shopping Vintage
But you know what happened? Good old marketplace happened again. I grabbed a few iPhone snaps to share- but stay tuned for an autumn look this weekend.

I hopped on there and did a search one day and usually it is nothing exciting that pops up. But that day, I saw this one. It was chunky. Detailed. Chippy and vintage. All of which I was looking for. It was listed as a garden hose holder- which it absolutely could work well for. I messaged the seller right away. She messaged back that it was cement and very heavy and it was available for porch pick up. She happened to located on the way to my sons house. $45 was a fraction of the price of the others I had found. So while I wasn’t sure what to expect in person since there was not a ton of info or photos in the listing- we stopped by on the way to dinner. It was even better in person than expected and as you can see, it came home with me.

Where to Enjoy Vintage statuary indoors
I knew right away this beauty was going in the house in the living room. I debated the coffee table or the dining table to start- as you can see, it landed on the dining table for now. Vintage swan planters are beautiful where you place them though. You can set them on a sideboard or entry table and fill with pretty bits or leave them looking pretty just as is. They also can go outside of course. Swan planters are gorgeous in the garden with vines or blooms. And also just by themselves. The other look I love is to group a couple of them. So of course, treasure hunt continues before I can create that look.
You might remember this garden statue on the sideboard in my first book French Country Cottage.

This statue isn’t vintage- but it has the look and works beautifully. It was a HomeGoods find about 10 years ago probably. HEAVY concrete and had a bit of damage on the shelf so it was discounted. I had a heck of a time wrestling it into the cart and out of the cart. Of course, while vintage finds are always exciting- there are many reproduction swan planters and statues available that have a beautiful look and are probably much lighter to move haha. Coming your Way
I love this planter as is just looking pretty on the table. I thought I would show a 1 minute seasonal transformation as well. Coming your way this weekend. Happy Thursday all.
I love your swan. I too have one that I got 10-15 years ago and I still smile every time I see it. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Make that three…I have one my mother got at a “farm sale” easily 30 years ago…there were two, however when clearing my mom’s house, My s-i-l picked it up by the neck & decapitated it. franki
Your swan is beautiful I remember when people use to put plastic swans like this on porch or yards…..
Check out r.house on instagram…she has a reel where she made a plastic one look just like an old cement one, using paint, plaster of paris and dark wax. its an amazing and beautiful transformation!
You are such a great treasure hunter. your swan is beautiful and i look forward to seeing what you add in time.

I’ve been looking for one of these also. Great find.
CHEZ PLUIE PROVENCE has a Swan in wood similar to yours.
I purchased a cement swan planter with a verdigris finish from a Junior League Christmas sale way back in the 80’s, and have love it ever since. I fill it with blooms or shells in the summer months, and fill it with pinecones in the winter months. When it is filled with dirt it must weigh around 70 pounds, but none the less it was stolen from my front porch in Old Town Alexandria, Va. I got it back a year later when a sharp eyed friend of mine saw it in an alley way several blocks away while walking her puppy! My Precious swan will always live in the back garden now!
I have been searching for a swan planter, as well. Swans have a special meaning for me, as my great-granfather, who came from sweden, was named swan.
Thank you for the inspiration! I have had my grandmother’s swan for years, put it on a shelf because I got a little tired of it. Time to pull it out again! A group of Orchids or a simple Boston fern, dried Hydrangeas were my go-to back in the day.
I am looking forward to some fresh ideas.
