The Weekend View
This week is all about gardening, hiking & getting a bit lost & quiet mornings.
Hiking trails
We took off for a different view for a hike this week. My husband and sons are doing a bit of training for hiking some bigger mountain trails in Tahoe this summer. And so they are tackling some lower mountain trails to build up a bit. Last week, they were supposed to climb a training hill where you climb nearly straight up for almost a 900 ft gain in elevation in about a mile. The boys both bailed on joining in- so I was the chosen one to join my husband that day. He joked that I was the chosen victim. The hill was intense- but also so good for burning off some of that extra ‘stress’ energy.

Bridges & Beauty
At the start of the trail – there are some old bridges over a river. There is something about those old rounded shapes and details that bridges have that I love. Seems I am always stopping to take a few photos of them.

Getting Lost
Not really, but when we got to the top of the mountain- we knew that the path was going to take us to a completely different town on the other side of the mountain. Instead of where our car was. We didn’t want to walk that many miles back to the car on the road- so we tried to map going a different way. This is how long the app told us it would take to get back to our car. We had a good laugh about it and no, we did not follow the directions it said. We winged it and followed a trail that seemed to be going in the right direction and found ourselves right back at the starting point within about an hour and a half.

Quiet Mornings
I mentioned last week that I have been really intentionally trying to slow down a bit and savor the quiet and sunrise before getting busy. This sunrise view with coffee has been fueling me every morning. More on this practice coming to the blog soon.

Salad on Repeat
With so much fresh garden goodness available right now- we have been making a salad everyday to enjoy with dinner. And I have also been having one for lunch as well. Though we are vegetarians and eat plant based everything everyday- I haven’t been feeling as balanced as I feel I should as of recent and so, am on a quest. One of those things I am doing is prepping a base salad several times a week so it is an easy grab and customize for my lunch everyday. This one is full of super greens, jicama, cucumber, onion, peppers, almonds and a splash of dried cranberry trail mix. I add in a few things when serving – and it might be my favorite yet. Would you like to see more of our favorite vegetarian recipes and summer salad recipes?

Wandering
On that same finding more balance note- I have been making an effort to step back for a couple of days each week. So, this week, I did more wandering in the wild and in the garden than online so not much of the usual wandering to share.

Coming your way next week and weekend:
Another Christmas in July look, a tour of the summer garden and what is blooming right now, a few favorite things and 5 minute decorating and room refresh ideas.
Happy Weekend all.

Aussie jo sorry to hear about your leaking roof
Good for you to search for balance! Life is too short, and there are no heroes in the end! Those quiet morning walks through the garden with my Mud Water (no caffeine, thank you) are a reminder to step into the day gently. …Btw, I hope you planted some Dahlias? They are spectacular this year! Maybe the ash from the fires?
