Okay… I know I have brought home a beautiful antique work bench treasure before- but this one takes the cake folks. Seriously. When I found it, all the heart flutter, sweaty palms, love, love, love happened. Though I will admit that I hesitated as I argued with myself that I didn’t need it. I already have an antique work bench that is a delightful chippy green. But need is a strong word when it comes to junking. I more go with do I LOVE LOVE LOVE it? And you know the answer already so… sharing a closer look at this drop dead gorgeous treasure that came home with me.

Antique Work Bench Treasure

Patina galore. From chippy paint to weathered wood to patinated metal. They say it is all in the details so I will share those first and a look at the overall antique work bench at the end of the post.

All the little wooden knobs and metal bin pulls and then there is this little metal tray on the front.

The seller told me it was an old ashtray- whatever it is, suffice it to say – OBSESSED. That is all.

The seller also knew the history- his mother was a big antique collector from the wine country and apparently this piece was built on site in the wine country to be used while constructing the Rutherford Railroad section in Calistoga. Which dates it to around 1868. The original listing price was $750- I messaged for info at that time because it didn’t have measurements in the listing. A day later, the seller messaged me about dropping the price to $500 and when we got there to look at it a couple days later- he said if we wanted to give it a good home, $350 worked for him. So of course we loaded it up in about 2 seconds.
Antique Vintage Deliciousness

Folks. Seriously- can you even believe this piece?

This is such a charming piece in person. It has so much character and so much lovely patina. Even not styled or in place – I am obsessed with it. Look at the drawers details. BEYOND. I grabbed a few iPhone photos when getting ready to load up this treasure up into the truck and more once we got home and pulled the protective wraps off- but they are not styled yet and covered in pine needles and leaves obviously so stay tuned for a proper shoot.

Each drawer has different little cubby configurations. So good.

The Question is… Where will this antique work bench go?
Well, originally, I was considering to use as a desk but when we got there, it was a tad chunkier than I thought so I am dreaming up several spots to play with it a bit. And I should note that I had to laugh when I got home and started to notice just how many different antique pieces I have that have a very similar shade of green paint and patina on them. It is definitely a color I am in love with and always drawn to.
Side note- after loading this treasure up, we stopped at a couple local thrifts and I found some other treasures. Not furniture or dishes so not my usual finds- but they are so delightful. Will share those soon.

Thank you for your suggestion, we won’t be sanding or removing any paint-we love the finish as it is and what is on there does seem stable- no flaking or chipping off so they may have sealed it previous to us bringing it home.
