Easy Holiday & Seasonal Decor Storage Tips

Are you the type to un-deck the halls right after Christmas or do you wait a bit? I usually wait until at least New Years. Often longer into January and sometimes, the twinkling trees are up for several months (and in the case of the Christmas book- all.year.long.) But once I do start to un-decorate- I want all the seasonal decor storage organized and easy to pack away and unpack again next year. I have learned a few things over the years that help make it work better for me- and I thought I would share a few tips today. Side note- most of these snaps are screenshots from a video so apologies if they are not as crisp as usual photos.

Seasonal Decor Storage- Label Everything

I mean, you might think that you know just what is what inside those storage bags or boxes- but adding a label makes it so much easier. No questioning what is what- and one thing I like to do is to box up all the things from a certain tree for example. All the ornaments, ribbons, branches, picks, etc. in one box that is labeled with the trees name. You say you don’t name your trees? No worries- a good description is perfect. Mushroom tree for example- unless you have several trees decorated the same- you will know which one it is.

Add Luggage Tags to Tree Bags

If you have more than one tree that you put up each year- and you like to change things up this is super helpful. Add one of those paper luggage tags to your tree bag with a note about which tree is inside the bag. No more unzipping and peeking and trying to figure it out. Don’t forget to tuck the tree stand in the bag too.

Use a Wreath Storage Bag

I love wreath storage bags- they make it so easy to store all those bulky wreaths in a snap. We have a couple of them that fit several wreaths in each one. Label the bags, hang them in the closet or on the wall and you are good to find them easily next year.

Ornaments storage

This rolling cart is a game.changer. for storing ornaments. How many times have you boxed up those vintage ornaments and found several broken when you opened the box again? It has happened to me too many times. But this storage holds a whole lot of ornaments- and even more of those small dainty vintage ones.

I love that you can stack the boxes and roll them right on into the closet and out of the room. And it also has storage pockets on the fronts and the top has another layer for storage as well.

Big Old Storage Containers

Okay, who doesn’t love a big old storage bin? I mean, it is big enough for all.the.things. probably even both of the 12′ Skeletons that my daughter has in her yard. This is such a great bin for small trees, large trees, garlands, big decor pieces, etc.

More Seasonal Decor Storage Tips

Clear containers are great for peering into without opening up to sort through. Think bags for wreaths, bins for ornaments, etc. basically- all the seasonal decor things

Use containers for storing seasonal decor all year and simply swap each season out. Spring comes out when Winter takes the storage space for example.

Repurpose some of your decor. Winter decor is a lot like Christmas- the cozy continues just with less and a bit of a different spin. Stay tuned for a whole lot more on winter cozy ideas coming your way in the new year.

Purchase extra tree storage bags to use for non -tree storage. You can fit so many bits, foliage, etc. in those big old bags and it makes it so easy to store all the things. Don’t forget to label each one!

Hang things like wreath and garland storage containers on a free standing clothing rack- easy to stack and tuck and keep them all organized in one area.
